On March 9, Apple introduced the innovative technology for their laptops, the Force Click trackpad. The 12-inch 12-inch MacBook and the upgraded MacBook Pro with Retina display were the first to get the new touchpad.
According to Apple, the Force Touch trackpad brings a new interactivity dimension to Mac. The Apple development allows the computer to distinguish touch and press, offering a new way of fast and easy interaction with the OS X interface elements. In days to come, it will be used in all laptops of the company.
Force Touch incorporates the pressure force sensors which support clicks anywhere, and the tactile mechanism provides uniform response. In the OS X settings, you can adjust the trackpad response changing the pressing force required for each type of click. The Force Touch trackpad also supports the new gesture called Force Click (a firm press), which allows, for example, looking up a word?s definition, opening a map quickly, or viewing a file?s thumbnail.
The blogger Dom Esposito made a compilation of 15 gestures that can be used on a Mac Force Touch with a trackpad. They are the following:
- Rename a file or a folder.
- Preview a file.
- Preview calendar events.
- Force Click any date to create a new event.
- Drop a pin in Maps.
- Pressure sensitive zoom in Maps.
- Look up any word in the dictionary.
- Pressure sensitive fast-forward.
- Show all the windows of the opened app.
- Right-click on dock icons.
- Edit information in Contacts.
- Add a new contact with a phone number or an email address.

The updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is now available in the online store Apple.
