74 Percent Of Devices Run iOS 7

Even though iOS 7 wasn’t received very well by all users (as there have been quite a few complaints about the latest iOS iteration, such as flat graphics and motion sickness inducing zooming animations), it seems that iOS 7 still managed to make its way in the majority of users’ devices. Almost three quarters of iOS users are running iOS 7 on their devices; the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile Operating System was released almost three months ago.
An updated chart that tracks App Store users was was posted by Apple on its developer site; the chart shows that 74 percent of all iOS devices are running the latest version of iOS. This is 10 percent higher than the amount of devices running iOS 7 in October. The higher iOS 7 adoption rate was certainly helped by the fact that two new iPhone models (the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5C) were launched in September and two new iPad models (the iPad Air and the second generation iPad mini with retina display) were launched in October, all of them being released with iOS 7 out of the box. The latest iteration of Apple’s mobile Operating System saw the fastest adoption rate of any iOS to date.
iOS 7 was released this September with the two new iPhone models, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. Unfortunately we don’t know how many units the new iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and the new iPads (iPad Air and Retina iPad mini) have sold since September as Apple will report its current quarter in January 2014. We do have a bit of information regarding the two new iPhone models as Apple reported a combined 9 million units have been sold during the first weekend of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C availability; this also helped increase iOS 7’s adoption rate.
Another interesting information from the updated chart on Apple’s developer site is the fact that 22 percent of iOS devices still run iOS 6 while the remaining 4 percent is represented by iOS devices that are running on older versions of Apple’s mobile Operating System. iOS 7 is not available on older iOS devices such as iPhones older than the iPhone 4, iPods older than the fifth generation iPod touch or on the first iPad. It is also worth mentioning that these percentages don’t account for minor iOS releases and they don’t detail how many iPads and how many iPhones and iPods are using iOS 7.
Apple posts these kind of statistics with the intention of making developers include new iOS APIs and features in their apps and games; this could lead to a situation where new apps and games will be incompatible with older versions of iOS, which may force users to adopt the the latest mobile Operating System from Apple.
The upcoming iOS 7 update is going to be to version 7.1 and it is currently in beta testing by devs. The update will improve the built in software keyboard, it will include a new auto mode for toggling HDR photos on and off and it will of course fix bugs. Unfortunately nobody knows when Apple will release the iOS 7.1 update; developers have had access to iOS 7.1 or the past couple of weeks.
