Apple and Samsung, competing in the market of mobile devices, control 104% of the profits in the industry of smartphones, says Canaccord Genuit research firm. The share of the Californian corporation is 86%. This high figure is due to the weakened position of the South Korean giant.
According to the study by Canaccord, in the III quarter of 2014 Apple and Samsung gained control over 104% of operating profit in the global smartphones market. Analysts attributed the figure exceeding one hundred percent to the fact that many manufacturers, including Motorola, Microsoft and Sony, record operating losses. The share of Samsung now accounts for 18% of total profits which is the lowest indication since 2011.
In the III quarter of 2014 the shipments of smartphones to the world market reached a new benchmark, reaching 327.6 units. For the quarter, the situation improved for LG, which added 2%. The statistics for HTC and Blackberry remained the same.
Canaccord Genuity does not include the stats of Chinese manufacturers which are rapidly gaining momentum. Companies from China already rank high in the mobile industry: they shipped 101.7 million smartphones in the II quarter of 2014, by 25% more than the previous quarter.
