Apple is Preparing the iPhone with a Wraparound Screen

Judging from Apple?s latest patents, the future iPhones will get a curved screen. Previously, the Cupertino company patented a method of producing such screens, which enables reducing the number of defects. Now Apple has updated a patent application for a wraparound sapphire screen.
In 2013, the US Patent Office registered Apple?s right on this idea. The patent description said about several shapes of a curved display, namely ?a hollow cylinder of the oval, triangular, and rectangular cross-section and other shapes?. The structure of the cylinder covering the screen is what will be made of sapphire. The material is extremely scratch-resistant, and Apple already uses it for Touch ID.
In the updated application of 2015, Apple elaborates on the internal structure of the smartphone. As envisioned by the company?s engineers, the curved screen will be able to maximize the effective use of the surface of the smartphone case, for example, taking a concave shape. Apple already patented the corresponding shape. The new application also mentions the printed circuit with chips and a battery.
The main part of Apple?s patent describes the process of manufacturing the curved sapphire glass. Its essence is in drawing the sapphire crystal structure of the required shape out of the heated material. The patent also considers the ways of using the screen, the work of the sensors and so on. For example, when rotating the phone, the information on the screen will be updated automatically.
In the patent, Apple?s developers point out that the control of the OS, including volume control and returning to the desktop, is carried out by means of gestures. There are no buttons or switches on the gadget. The face recognition technology is used for the device to identify which part of the screen the user is looking at.
