Apple Promises To Fix iOS 7 Bug

While Apple keeps releasing beta after beta for version 7.1 of its mobile Operating System, iOS, but a bug still managed to elude the Cupertino based giant and it randomly reboots iOS 7 based devices. iOS 7 was released last year on September 18th and even though initial reception was mixed (the seventh iteration of Apple’s famous mobile OS being criticized for its flat design and the animations that induced motion sickness), its adoption rate was very high in the months following its release. In October 2013, a month after the release of iOS 7, the number of iDevices running iOS 7 was 64 percent, while in December 2013, the adoption rate increased by ten percents, meaning that almost three quarters of iOS users were running iOS 7 on their iDevices last month. As of January 12th, 79 percents of devices are using iOS 7, an increase of 5 percents over December 2013.
We mentioned that iOS 7 was not very well received due to a number of bugs. While most of them have been fixed by Apple, one remains unfixes since September 18th 2013, when iOS was officially released and as we mentioned above, it randomly reboots iDevices (the bug affects iPhones, iPads and iPod touches). Users have been very vocal about the so called ‘home screen crash’ (which is also known as BSOD, but instead of blue it is the Black Screen of Death) and finally, after four months Apple recognized the existence of the bug and even promised a fix. Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller told Mashable: “We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash“.
As you can imagine it is very annoying to have your device randomly reboot for no apparent reason, especially since it remain unfixed for such a long period of time. Apple has been releasing beta versions to registered developers, for the upcoming iOS 7.1 update and so far no iOS 7.1 beta tester has complained about any random reboots so it is very likely that the upcoming official release of iOS 7.1 will finally put an end to the home screen crash bug. We’ve kept you up to date with beta versions of iOS 7.1, the latest release being the fourth iOS 7.1 beta which you can download here, but only if you are a registered iOS developer. iOS 7.1 is rumored to be released in March 2014 and besides bug fixes and a few redesigns, it will also include the iOS in the Car feature.
