Because the smartwatches are set to become the next big thing of the tech business, the guys at Apple have filled a request to register the iWatch trademark in Japan, according to Bloomberg.

Apple has filled the documentation for iWatch trademark to the Japanese authorities last month and the company describes the product as a watch or a portable computer. For this particular reason we tend to believe that the rumors that made the headlines lately, suggesting that Apple has hired a team of around 100 engineers to develop an iWatch, were pretty accurate.

On the other hand, the Cupertino-based company is not the only one working on an iWatch, as the Samsung officials have announced a couple of months ago that they are working on a smartwatch. As well, a similar product was recently introduced by Sony, synchronized with the debut of the gigantic Xperia Z Ultra.

Even though the Sony Smartwatch 2 is more like a second screen for the Android smartphone, you can consider it as smart watch.

Besides the three aforementioned companies, the China-based firm Geak already has a smartwatch available for pre-order. The list of rumored companies that are casting glances to the smartwatches business continues with Intel, Google, and LG. There are some voices saying that even Microsoft is planning a companion for its Windows Phone smartphones, and, of course, the list is still open.
