Apple’s Share in the Computer Market has Reached its Maximum Over the Past 19 Years

The fuss over the presentation of the new iPhone smartphones and iPad tablets deviated attention from another important tendency – Apple is regaining its personal computers market share. During the quarter ended September 27th, the corporation sold 5.5 million Mac computers. Apple’s PC market share has exceeded 6%, reaching the highest level since 1995, when Microsoft became the dominant player after the release of the Windows 95 operating system. In 2006, Mac OS X computers had only 2.1% of the world sales. Since that moment, their market share had been growing in 33 of the 34 quarters.
During the past fiscal quarter, Apple computers earned more profit than tablets – $ 6.625 billion compared to $ 5.316 billion. The company’s report says that Mac sales soared by 21% at an annual rate. The general director of Apple, Tim Cook, called the result “absolutely amazing.”
The growth of the PC sales is due to a number of factors, the main ones being the popularity of Apple products in general, the cancellation of the Software Update fees, good publicity of the showcase, and presentation of new models, such as the more affordable MacBook Air.
‘If one likes the first thing they bought from Apple, they are most likely to buy other products,’ – thinks Phil Shiller, the Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. According to him, a lot of people purchase MakBook for the first time after they had tried iPhone.
Nevertheless, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro remain niche products. And this is primarily due to the prices:on average‘Apple’ laptops cost three times as much as Windows portable computers.
