Soon you will be able to buy Google Glass, at least according to some documents obtained by The Verge. Developed by Google X (the Google division devoted to technological advancements), Google Glass is only available under the Glass Explorer pre-public release program and the Explorer version of Google Gkass costs $1,500. According to The Verge, Google will make its wearable computer available to everyone soon (possibly next week). It seems the offer will only last 24 hours and it will allow citizens from the United States only to buy the $1,500 device. According to the leaked documents, Google will also run a promotion that will also reward a free sunglass shade or one of Google’s prescription glasses to each new Google Glass buyer.

The documents also indicate that Google may start the offer next Tuesday, on April 15th. It is also interesting to note that the leaked documents state clearly that the offer that may begin next Tuesday is not a full release of the Google Glass device, instead being an extension of the current Glass Explorer pre-public release program. The full release date of Google Glass is still unknown at this point though Google expects to be able to release it globally by the end of the year. The reason behind the upcoming offer could be that Google needs lots of people to beta test the device before the final release, which would suggest that a public release date for Google Glass is near.

The Glass Explorer pre-public release program began at Google I/O 2012, when the company started accepting pre orders for the device. Later in 2012, around 8,000 people ordered and received Google Glass via a Google promotion where users had to describe what they would do with if they had Google Glass. In April last year, the Explorer Edition was made available to testers and Google I/O developers in the United States for $1,500. If these leaked documents prove to be accurate, this may be the final promotion that Google offers for the Google Glass headset before the final release date.

Recently we reported that Google signed a deal with Luxottica (the world?s largest eye wear company, controlling eye wear brands such as Ray-Ban, Persol and Oakley), a deal that means that Luxottica will make eyeglass frames that will use Google Glass. The deal means that Google Glass headsets will benefit from stylish designs of the frames, which would help a lot when it is released to all people not just tech aficionados; some people would only like Google Glass with a pair of stylish frames. The deal was pretty good for Google, as it managed to partner with the eye wear manufacturer that has the biggest market share, 12.4%; plus Luxottica will be able to sell Google Glass in more than 5000 retail stores around the world. What do you think about the prospect of being able to buy Google Glass for $1,500 starting this Tuesday? As always, we would like to hear from you so leave a comment in the dedicated section below.
