FT: Apple Announces the iOS-Oriented “Smart Home” System at the WWDC

Apple is preparing for to announce a new software platform that turns an iPhone into a solution for remote light control, security system and other components of the “smart home” at WWDC 2014. It is reported by The Financial Times business publication, citing its own sources. Apple’s solution will allow to combine the components existing the market into a single ecosystem.
“The integrated Apple system will simplify configuration and management of the “smart“ home with the help of mobile devices. For example, the light can automatically turn on in a room when the owner with the iPhone enters it. The features of the platform are described in detail in one of the Apple patents”, – the newspaper reports.
Users can control the volume of the sound, light a fireplace, turn on the TV and select the desired channel, change the brightness of the light bulbs, and even mute the blinds with the iPhone. The settings will be remembered and attributed to certain conditions. The devices will interact over the wireless network, but it is still not known exactly which device will integrate all the others. Given the direction of the company evolution, everything may be integrated via the next generation of the Apple TV.
It is assumed that Apple would create a separate standard for the components of the “smart” home and the manufacturers of such solutions would have to receive their certificate of conformity MFI («Made for iPhone»). Presently speakers, accessories and other electronics are produced according to this scheme.
The presentation of the specialty will be held at the WWDC 2014 on June 2 in San Francisco. In addition to the “smart” home platform the event will see the debut of the iOS 8, OS X 10.10 operating systems and a more affordable iMac.
