Latest rumors suggest the recently released Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could get a new variant that is going to be announced at the Mobile World Congress in 2014. Inside sources told SamMobile that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite, as that is the name of the device, will be released with high end specs and a lower price tag than the original Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Sources also claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite will reach worldwide markets in February and March 2014.

Some of you may remember a few pre release rumors for the third Galaxy Note phablet, rumors that claimed the phablet would be released in several models, one of which was rumored to be a cheaper model with lower specs. These latest rumors are very similar to previous ones, as the Galaxy Note 3 Lite is rumored to be equipped with an LCD display between 5.49 inches and 5.7 inches and an 8 MP camera sensor. These are still high end specs, but a bit lower than the original Galaxy Note 3 which was released with a Super AMOLED display of 5.7 inches and a 13 MP camera sensor. Galaxy Note 3 Lite’s specs are also lower than the specs of recent high end smartphones and phablets.

Not long ago, a new Samsung model number, SM-N7505,leaked from shipping manifests for Samsung; the model number could be connected with the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite. The SM-N7505 is not close to Galaxy Note 3′s model number, SM-N900, but it is similar to Samsung Galaxy Note 2′s model number, SM-N7100. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was a very expensive high end phablet when it was released; today, Galaxy Note 2′s specs are not considered high end anymore and are in fact very similar to Galaxy Note 3 Lite’s rumored specs. The second generation Galaxy Note was released with a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display and an 8 MP camera sensor.

Since devices in the Galaxy Note line are phablets (a portmanteau of the words phone and tablet) with large displays, the term Lite is suitable to the rumored device since it is rumored to feature a smaller display. Including similar (albeit lower) specs as the high end Galaxy Note 3, does not make the ‘Mini’ moniker suitable; the low budget version of the Galaxy Note 3 was rumored to be named the Galaxy Note 3 Mini. Similar devices like the Samsung Galaxy Mini models, are actually mid range smartphones that include lower specs, less powerful CPUs than the South Korean company’s high end line and less powerful batteries. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite on the other hand will probably have powerful hardware that will be coupled with lower specs such as the display and camera sensor.

At the moment all we have about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite are rumors as nothing has been confirmed by Samsung. Before its official unveiling, you can expect more rumors to surface and even leaks. Mobile World Congress 2014 will also see the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 if we are to believe the rumors. The next Mobile World Congress will be held in February 2014.
