Galaxy Note 3 Sells 10 Million Units In Two Months

Samsung officials must be very happy after announcing that its latest flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, managed to sell over 10 million units globally since its release two months ago, on September 25th. In celebration for selling 10 million units, Samsung posted an image that shows all of its devices in the “10 Million Seller Club”. Samsung says the 10 million units milestone was first reach eleven years ago, in 2002, when the SGH-T100, a pebble like flip phone managed to sell over 10 million units. Since 2002, there have been 14 devices to reach (and pass) the 10 million units sold milestone; among them, the Samsung Galaxy Note, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the recent Galaxy Note 3 and all the devices in the Galaxy S line.
Now, when you say Samsung flagship you say big sales and whenever a new Samsung flagship is released, everybody wants to see how fast it reaches the milestones. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 needed twice as much time (four months) as the Galaxy Note 3 to sell 10 million units, while the first phablet in the Galaxy Note line needed nine months to reach the milestone. The recently released Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the fastest of them to reach the milestone.
This achievement is even more impressive when you consider the fact that devices in the Galaxy Note line are considered niche products, due to their very big displays. When it comes to overall sales, while phablets in the Galaxy Note line have impressive sales with both the first and the second Galaxy Note phablets having sold over 38 million units combined, they are not the South Korean company’s best selling devices. That honor goes to the Galaxy S line. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S4 managed to sell over 40 million units alone, since it was released in late April this year. It is also worth mentioning that the Samsung Galaxy S4 managed to reach the 10 million units sold milestone after a single month of availability. It’s no wonder that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is the South Korean company’s fastest selling smartphone to date.
However, the Galaxy Note 3 isn’t doing bad either, on the contrary – it managed to reach the 10 million units sold milestone very fast (just two months) for a nice device. Managing to sell 10 million Galaxy Note 3 units so fast will likely please investors, especially since most of them aren’t convinced that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be able to hit its goal of 100 million unit sales projected to its launch. Rumors suggested that Samsung was hoping that the Galaxy Note 3 to make investors change their mind and it seems that the Galaxy Note 3 might have done just that.
Yet, despite being the fastest selling Galaxy Note phablet to date, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has quite a few issues. One of them is the region lock issue that many early adopters had to face, an issue that many believed would affect Galaxy Note 3’s sales. The issue was meant as a feature to stop illegal “gray market” importing, but it quickly became a problem for anyone that tried to power his / hers Galaxy Note 3 outside their home region. This led to many consumers, those that travel a lot especially, be wary of purchasing the third Galaxy Note phablet. In the end Samsung realized that the feature is actually a problem and it claims that it will continue to make the procedure as simple and painless as possible in order to please all customers. In the end, it seems that the region lock issue did not affect sales.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 5.7 inch non PenTile Super AMOLED display capable of a full High Definition resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 386 pixels per inch density. It is also powered by the latest System on Chip from Qualcomm, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Its quad core CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz and the phablet is also equipped with 3 GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. It is also equipped with a replaceable battery of 3,200 mAh.
When it comes to storage capacity, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes in two models: one with 32 Gb of internal storage and one with 64 GB of internal storage; it is also equipped with a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 64 GB. The 13 MP rear camera sensor allows users to record videos in Full High Definition resolution (1080p) at 60 frames per second and also capture videos at 4K resolution at 30 frames per second; the Galaxy Note 3 also features a 1.9 MP front camera sensor. Regarding connectivity, the Galaxy Note 3 supports everything from 3G and 4G to WiFi, DLNA, Bluetooth, NFC and MHL.
The third Galaxy Note comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface over Google’s mobile operating system. The TouchWiz user interface includes a few exclusive features, most of them aimed at multitasking thanks to the improved Air Command feature. Multiscreen includes an extra set of multitasking capabilities that work very well with Android’s own multitasking; there are also some S-Pen features, such as Pen Window that lets you draw an area of the screen that a windowed app will occupy. All in all, the new S-Pen is much improved, allowing users to navigate using dot, circle and box motions.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is available on all major carriers: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon; the phablet can also be purchased at retailers such as Dell, Amazon and Wirefly. Released on September 25th, the Galaxy Note 3 is available in three color options: Jet Black, Classic White, and Blush Pink.
