Galaxy S5 Might Be Released This Year

After officially unveiling the next generation Galaxy Note just three days ago, could it be possible that Samsung will release another high profile device this year, the next flagship in the Galaxy S series, the Samsung Galaxy S5? Well, if we are to believe Internet rumors, it is not out of the question.
Of course we (and many of you, we are sure) believed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be released sometime next year, in mid spring. Usually, such a big flagship smartphone gets eleven, twelve months in the spotlight, not to mention that the South Korean company had other devices to release, one being the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
However, things are not going well for the South Korean company as its current Galaxy S flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a period of very low sales and its appeal is kind of lost. At launch, things were looking good for the Samsung Galaxy S4 as it impressed many customers and critics; however, in the following months after its launch, its image has changed to that of ‘just another not that great plastic Galaxy S3 successor that didn’t really innovate or set new standards‘.
Not to mention that after smartphones such as the HTC One, the LG G2 and the Sony Xperia Z1 were released, it was pretty obvious that Samsung’s current flagship smartphone wasn’t up to 2013 standards. There were also some scandals (such as the rigging benchmarks allegations) and everything culminated with declining monthly sales. All these problems with the Samsung Galaxy S4 led many analysts to believe that Samsung would approve an early release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, maybe during the holiday season.
Recent reports from South Korea claim that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is already set to be released this year and the next flagship in the Galaxy S series will enter full production by the end of October. Of course, this is nothing but a rumor not to mention that it sounds unbelievable, but considering the Samsung Galaxy S4 could have benefited enormously from a few tweaks, the idea of an early Galaxy S5 release doesn’t seem that absurd anymore.
Suppose the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with the same specs and feature as the Samsung Galaxy S4, but with a superb aluminum body; we won’t hide the fact that we would be interested in it. If you add an even better camera and Android 4.4 KitKat, you may get a smartphone that is what the Samsung Galaxy S4 should have been. If we are lucky, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer might even introduce its own Exynos 5 octa core CPU in the Samsung Galaxy S5, in which case it would be even better.
Bottom line is that while usually incremental update are seen as a bad thing, in this particular case the Samsung Galaxy S5 could be a successful smartphone with just a bit of tweaking and a new Operating System. We hope that whatever Samsung decides to do (a complete new redesign with new specs and feature, or an incremental update such as the one mentioned above) they will ditch plastic for the Galaxy S line, as it is not a premium material worthy of such high end devices.
