Galaxy S5 To Feature 64 bit SoC

Samsung just announced that the next smartphone in the Galaxy S series, the Samsung Galaxy S5, will have a similar power as the recently unveiled iPhone 5S. Apple unveiled the iPhone 5S on September 10th and it will be the first smartphone in the world to be released with a 64 bit System on Chip, the A7. It seems that Samsung decided its upcoming Galaxy S5 flagship will offer the same power as the iPhone 5S and it also be equipped with a 64 bit System on Chip.
The announcement was made by Samsung’s CEO of Mobile, Shin Jong Kyun, in an interview with The Korea Times. In the interview, Shin Jong Kyun said: “Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64 bit processing functionality […]“. While Samsung’s CEO of Mobile did not make any specific references to the Samsung Galaxy S5, the successor to this year’s Galaxy S4 is rumored to be the next smartphone to be released by the South Korean company. If the Samsung Galaxy S5 will indeed be the smartphone in question, then it will be the first Samsung device to come with a 64 bit System on Chip and maybe the second in the world to utilize such a powerful SoC.
There is a fierce competition between Samsung and Apple , which is probably why Samsung also emphasized the fact that from now on it will aim to establish an important presence in Asian markets. Of course, as you can guess, Samsung’s announcement are a direct consequence of Apple’s previous announcement that it aims to strike a deal with China Mobile (the world’s biggest carrier with over 700 million subscribers) and establish a presence on the Chinese market. Samsung and Apple often play this game, countering each other’s announcements with similar features and intentions. The announcement came from the same Shin Jong Kyun: “Samsung understands that Apple intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as in Japan, meaning that we should try harder in these countries […]“.
While the Samsung Galaxy S4 is still a ways off and most likely won’t make an appearance until next year, there have been many leaks about Samsung’s next generation flagship. It is speculated that the fifth generation Galaxy S will be the first to ditch plastic and be released with an aluminum body; it is also speculated that it will feature a 16 MP camera sensor. Some other rumors also mention a flexible display and a folding design. You can read more about Samsung Galaxy S5’s rumored features in this article.
As most of you know, Samsung is the leader on the smartphone market so far, thanks to its flagship smartphone and phablets from the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines, but also thanks to its low budget smartphones that are very profitable. At the beginning of this month, the South Korean company unveiled the third generation Galaxy Note (on September 4th), a long rumored phablet. The Samsung Galaxy Note III will be released in international markets in less than a week, on September 25th.
