How To Activate Private Browsing For Your iPhone’s Safari
If you have been using the Chrome app in iOS and miss the incognito mode when using Safari, you can go in the Settings app of your iPhone or iPad and start a private browsing session from there. However, there’s an easier way to do this and Cydia provides the answer. Many people started using Google Chrome instead of Safari because it was easier to start a private browsing session within it. Now there’s a tweak in Cydia and it’s called Privata. It enables one to have private browsing sessions from Safari and it allows one to enable or disable it easily, right from Safari.
You will have to enable the ModMyi repo in Cydia to be able to install this and you will also need a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to run Cydia. Configuration after the install is done from the same Settings app and it presents one with only the option to enable or disable the tweak. Safari will get an action menu called Toggle Private Browsing. While a button would be preferred, it’s still easier to do this than search for settings in the Settings app. The private browsing button is right at the bottom of the list holding the actions.
There are a few bugs to consider with Privata. The action menu holds more than one entry for it and the first URL that you will access in private mode will also be logged into the history file. The latter was acknowledged by the developer and he’s working on a fix. If you like using Safari but want a private browsing session within it, install Privata.
