How To Downgrade Your iPhone/iPad To iOS 5.1.1 After Updating To 6.0
There are many cases when people update their devices to another firmware version and find themselves not satisfied with their choice. I am not a rocket scientist but since you are here and you are reading this, I assume you updated your device to iOS 6. Either your device does not run the way you expected or you want to benefit from an untethered jailbreak solution (available for iOS 5.11) or the new Maps app is virtually annoying you, rest assured because you landed in the right place. Downgrading to 5.1.1 puts you in a waiting position for new iOS 6 fixes and updates while enjoying the Cydia benefits. Up next we will teach you how to successfully downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 after updating to iOS 6.
Before we get started with the actual guide you must head to our dedicated Download page and download the 5.1.1 IPSW file on your computer. This is actually the first and indispensable step in downgrading your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. After you have successfully downloaded the IPSW pay attention and make sure you do the following:
Step 1. Please go to iTunes and Back Up your device (right-click on your device name and then select Backup). If you are using the iCloud service you can also backup using it (Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup then click on the Backup button). I am not saying anything will go wrong and usually it does not, but in case something happens you can stay relaxed.
Step 2. Now it is time to restore your device using iTunes. I repeat, please proceed with this step only after you downloaded the 5.1.1 IPSW. Go to iTunes and hold down the Option button and, in the same time also select the Restore option. A dialog box with a file explorer will appear that will allow you to choose the desired IPSW file (obviously you will select the fresh downloaded one). Just select the Open option now.
Step 3. After you successfully restored your device to a previous firmware version all you have to do now is to restore device back up. Remember when I told you to back up your device? Now it is time to head to iCloud and begin the restore process.
Step 4. After you’ve downloaded the IPSW file and backed up your device, then it’s time to perform the restore in iTunes.
Congratulations! You have succesfully downgraded your device to iOS 5.1.1. The entire process is not a complex one, but if you encounter any kind of problems do not hesitate to leave a comment and we’ll help you get it done.
