How To Import Your SIM Card Contacts After Buying a New iPhone

If you ever asked yourself what a SIM card is good for, besides allowing you to call people and receive calls from others, well – it also stores your contacts on it. So when you buy a new iPhone you won’t need to manually backup those contacts and you identity. You’ll just insert the SIM card into your new phone and you’re all set to go. The problem with the iPhone in comparison with other similar products is that the iPhone still doesn’t store the information you need on the SIM. This means contacts, but that doesn’t mean you can’t import them into your phone. Take the card out of your old phone and check to see if it’s compatible with your new iPhone. Then you need to sync you iPhone via iTunes to back everything up, just in case. From Settings turn off iMessage then clean your phone of all the content it already has so you can get a clean copy of contacts. Go to Settings > General, look at the bottom of the list of options and choose Reset. Tap on Erase All Content and Settings. This will completely wipe your iPhone of any information and you get to start anew.
Now just remove the SIM from your iPhone and put in the new one you took out of your old phone. plug the iPhone to your computer via USB so it can sync everything to iTunes. Now go into Settings, scroll down to Mail, Contacts, Calendars. At the Contacts section, just below the Order option you will find Import SIM Contacts. Select this option. If you are on an CDMA network you might run into problems, in which case talk to your service provider and the people there might enlighten you.
