- Apple TV 2G
A short time after the evasi0n tool has been released, people over at FireCore also released a tool that will do the same for the Apple TV 2. That is jailbreak the device.
If you’re wondering what the fuss is about regarding the latest Apple TV firmware, well that implies a Bluetooth keyboard. Yes – that’s right – Apple now allows users to use their bluetooth keyboards in conjunction with their Apple TVs. This along with some other minor features that make it worthy of doing a firmware upgrade. The new Seas0nPass update that was recently released you can now too make use of these features on your jailbroken device.
In this article we’ll teach you how to jailbreak your Apple TV 2 using this tool.
How To Jailbreaking iOs 6.1 Apple TV 2 using Seas0nPass
Note: This method of jailbreaking your Apple TV is to be used only with the Apple TV 2. It will not work if you own an Apple TV 3 device that can do 1080p. An Apple TV 3 jailbreak is probably in the works but this will take some time because there are fewer services running on that device. And as soon as an Apple TV 3 jailbreak is to be released we’ll be sure to let you know first.
Take note that you will need a micro USB cable to be able to connect your Apple TV 2 to your computer and you will also need your Apple TV remote.
The first step is to download Seas0nPass to your computer. You can use both OS X and Windows for this tutorial – the steps are basically the same. We chose OS X for this particular case. You can find both of them on our Download Page.
The next step is to open the Seas0nPass app (double-click on it for it to open). Click the Create IPSW button and the tool will immediately start downloading the Apple TV 5.2 firmware (namely iOS 6.1). Be patient as the download will take a while, depending on your Internet connection. When the download is complete the jailbreak tool will craft a custom IPSW file from it. You can use this file for your Apple TV 2 to jailbreak it.
The third step in the process is to plug your USB Micro cable into your Apple TV 2 and insert the other end into your Mac or PC. The LED light located on the front part of the Apple TV 2 will flash briefly.
Now take your Apple TV 2 remote and hold down the Menu and Play/Pause buttons for 7 seconds. This will place the Apple TV 2 into DFU mode.
Seas0nPass will soon recognize that the Apple TV 2 is in DFU mode and will start a recovery process using the custom firmware. This is automated and it will fire up iTunes guiding it to the location of the Apple TV 2 firmware so you won’t have to do anything. let the process complete everything that it’s doing. It may take a while since everything needs to be extracted and installed onto your Apple TV 2. You can close Seas0nPass once the process is entirely complete.
We’re almost done. Next you should disconnect the cable from your computer so that the Apple TV 2 is not connected to it. Plug in the power cable for the Apple TV 2 and be sure that the LED light is active and that there is power going to the Apple TV 2. Connect the HDMI cable to your TV and the other end to your Apple TV 2.
The final step is to reconfigure everything. The jailbreak tool restores a clean copy of the firmware (a customized one) and so you will have to set up everything from scratch. This includes the WiFi on the Apple TV 2. When you reach the home screen you should see the FireCore logo on the Apple TV 2′s settings app. Look for this logo to ensure your Apple TV 2 is indeed jailbroken.
Now that you have a jailbroken Apple TV 2 there are lots of stuff you can do with the device. You won;t find a Cydia app since a jailbroken Apple TV 2 is not the same as – let’s say – an iPhone that has been jailbroken.
