How To Jailbreak Apple TV 2 Using Evasi0n on Mac OS X

- Apple TV 2G
Thanks to the evade3rs team, who recently released a new jailbreak application, you now have an easier way to help you jailbreak your iOS 6. The tool they have released is called evasion. Just as you were used to, you can find on our page the tutorials that will guide you through the jailbreak process. We wrote for you, the easiest way, to jailbreak the iOS 6 on Apple TV 2, both written and with video.
One of the advantages of this new tool called evasion, is that you can use it to jailbreak all versions of iOS 6. You can use it for iOS 6.1, which is the latest, and also for the previous ones, iOS 6.0.2, iOS 6.0.1 or iOS 6.0. The hard work of the evad3rs is noticeable because besides creating this new user friendly tool, you can also use it to jailbreak your iOS even if you currently have Linux, Windows and of course Mac OS X.
If you still have uncertainties concerning its applicability then don’t. We tried this tutorial ourselves and we can tell you for sure that it’s bulletproof. And the best is yet to come. You can use it to jailbreak every device compatible with iOS 6 from iPod touch 5G, iPod touch 4G to iPad mini, iPad 4, and even iPhones running on it, like iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and of course on the brand new iPhone 5. For now, we will present you how to jailbreak iOS 6 running on Apple TV 2 by using the tool evasion with the operating system of Mac OS X. Soon, we will come up with new tutorials that will teach you how to do this even if you’re using Windows or Linux.
Note: First of all, you should make sure that the device you are trying to jailbreak is updated to one of the iOS 6 versions, whether it is iOS 6.0.2, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0 or the latest, iOS 6.1. Otherwise, the evasion tool won’t work. If you don’t have any of these versions, it is time to upgrade, and while you are upgrading get the latest version of this firmware, it will save you some work later. Second of all, as you are probably already aware of, you should make all the necessary backups of the device. We didn’t experience any trouble, but we don’t want you to risk losing any of your data. You can never be too careful when it comes to this sort of operation. Just watch our preparation tutorial for the jailbreaking of iOS 6, you should find all the necessary information there. Just follow the steps below.
Step1 : First thing on the do to list is to download the evasion tool from our download section. After the download is finished, extract files from the package where you whish.
Step2: Next, you have to launch this application, so just double click on it to open.
Step3: Most of us have their devices password protected, so if you did this too you will have to go to Settings, choose General, then Passcode Lock and tap on the option to Turn Passcode off.
Step4: If everything else is ready, now plug your device into your computer.
Step5: After the device is plugged in and the evasion open, a new message from the evasion tool should appear on your desktop, telling you that your device has been detected. As soon as this happens the Jailbreak button will be enabled and you should be able to click on it.
Step6: Now you’re done with the preparation steps. After you click this button (the Jailbreak button), the preparation for the process of jailbreaking will start.
Step7: Now all you have to do is wait while the tool presets your device because during this time it will prepare the jailbreak data, it will reboot your device, it will upload Cydia and of course it will upload Cydia’s list of packages. As you probably know by now, this takes a while so just wait for this several steps to end.
Step8: As soon as the processes mentioned in the previous steps have ended, a new message screen will appear on your desktop telling you to unlock the plugged in device. Do that, and after you unlock your device, a new option should appear on your Home screen; so tap on the icon of the Jailbreak application, but only ONCE. As soon as you do this, your device’ screen will turn black again and it should return to the screen Home.
Step9: Next, as the tool continues to run you should be able to see messages for every micro process performed like injection of jailbreaking data and remount of Filesystem processed successfully on the tool evasion.
Step10: The tool evasion will show you when the processes have finished performing by giving you the screen message Done. After that, your device will reboot. Give it some time, because in this section of the process the tool is performing the device setup for the first time. So keep in mind that the first reboot will take a little bit longer than those that follow. Yes, as you guessed by now, your device will reboot a few times until the end of the jailbreak.
Step 11: The logo of the Evasion tool will appear now on your display with a white background behind it. More micro processes should be running by now, and the app will keep sending you brief messages as they are performed. Here are the processes that you will be receiving messages for:
- Settup for AFC2 and fstab
- Settup for Cydia
- Settup for the Cydia packages
- Clear the Cache SpringBoard
- And of course, the reboot
As we told you before, this messages are really brief. For example you will hardly be able to see them all, because they run on your screen for nearly a half of second, and if you turn your head elsewhere you might as well miss them. But after these setups are finished, your device will reboot again, and yes, this would be the last time. After the final reboot is done, the white screen containing the evasion logo will appear again on your screen and more brief messages will run on it. Only that this time, the micro processes are different. So, the tool will perform the next actions:
- The initialization of the offsets
- It will then find the offsets
- It will patch up the kernel
- The clean up!
- The final message will be Done. After this one your device will continue to boot
You will know when the jailbreaking of your device is done, because the tool will take you back to the screen Lock.
Since you have finished all the steps, now you will have to unlock your device, and swipe through the pages of your Home screen until you get to the Cydia application. Normally, it should be on the second page, but that usually depends on how many apps you have installed. Proceed by opening Cydia. Since this is the first time you launch it after the jailbreak, it will have to initialize so this might take one or two minutes. After this is done, you will be taken to the screen Lock one last time. Just Unlock, launch Cydia again, and pick up the type of user you need.
Hooray, now you have installed a jailbroken version of the iOS 6 on your device. For more useful info, check out the notes we left for you below.
Note
We have presented you with the jailbreak of the Apple TV 2. Don’t try to do this for the Apple TV 3, because as we know so far it cannot be jailbroken with any of the available tools. If we will have any more info on that, we will make another tutorial to help you with that as well.
Remember that in Step 3 we made you deactivate your password in order for the jailbreak to work. If you did that as told, now it is time to set it back after the process of jailbreaking has ended.
As we mentioned before, the tutorial we have just presented is applicable only for the users of Mac OS X. If you use the Windows operating system just go the section with tutorials for the jailbreaking of iOS 6 with Windows. Unfortunately, we don’t have any tutorials for those who use Linux, but soon we will post some tutorials for you too, so just stay tuned.
We are eager to hear from you so feel free to give us your feedback concerning your suggestions, comments or even questions in the comment section we have provided below. Not only you will get your answers, but you will also be able to help other people with their jailbreak as well.
If you don’t know yet which tutorial to follow, or if you aren’t sure about what jailbreak tools are best suited for you, go ahead and check out our post about top iOS 6 jailbreak tweaks, and download from there.
