How to jailbreak first iPad running iOS 5.1.1 with Redsn0w on Windows

If you have an iPad and you want to apply a jailbreak on the  iOS 5.1.1 firmware then your horizon does not really encompass that many possibilities, we are sorry to break it for you. If you however have the iPad 1G model, then you are the lucky winner and there is only good news for you in this respect: you can actually do a Jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 if you are the lucky possessor on iPad 1G.  This post has as main purpose helping you and guiding you through the lesson of performing a jailbreak on your  iPad 1G the iOS 5.1 firmware tethered using the Windows version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b. You can also do this with the  Mac OS X, but our sole focus today is on Windows, as mentioned above. Let the fun begin!

Windows iOS 5.1.1 iPad Jailbreak (RedSn0w)

Step 1

We shall start with the beginning and the first action to take here is to  to Download nothing less but the latest version of RedSnow that you find available (at that time of your reading this article) for the Windows operating system. This is the pillar of the whole process so make sure you tick this box first, as you can not proceed if you don’t have the latest version downloaded and as we have already mentioned, this is the starting point of the entire operation we are teaching you how to perform today.

Step 2

Now that the latest version has been downloaded you can buckle up and start to read the other steps for the jailbreaking of your iPad for the Windows system. Now that you have downloaded RedSn0w you will need to immediately extract it by right clicking on the redsn0w_win_0.9.10b8b.zip and then just click the extract to folder option. Once that this action is finished with, RedSn0w has been extracted and you now need to focus on finding the redsn0w.exe file, right click on it and simply just click the Run as administrator option (in case you have it as an option).

Step 3

Now you need to do the actual launching of the latest firmware version you have just downloaded, so you only need to simply double click on the RedSnow app and you will get there easily. For the third step, The RedSnow app should now be able to run and you will have to choose the  Jailbreaking option from the displayed welcoming notification, so do not hesitate to click on it, but make sure you don’t select the Extras one because the operation can not succeed with it. So to summarize, what you need to do is to click on the first option, Jailbreaking, and you will then be able to proceed to the next step. You’re still with us, right?

Step 4

Just a few more steps and we are almost ready to wrap up our little How To guide. Now that you have selected the Jailbroken option, you will be given a few preparatory instructions to go through before you enter DFU mode. We highly recommend you read through these instructions diligently and as soon as you make sure that everything is clear for you and you don’t need any extra clarification, you have to put your iPad into DFU mode, then turn off your device. This is step 4. And then just click on Next.

Step 5

You also need to turn your device off by following the next steps, so make sure you follow them accordingly:

• Just hold down the Power (corner) button for 5 seconds.
• Then without releasing the Power button, you need to also hold down the Home (bottom center) button along with the Power button. the duration of this action is of 10 full seconds.
• Without actually releasing the home button, you need to stop holding down the power button (the duration is up to 15 seconds).

That is all so far.

Step 6

This is when the jailbreak process starts and you will be able to monitor its process on the screen.

Step 7

Just after the process  has finished to prepare  your iPad for the Jailbreak by RedSnow,  you then will be asked to clearly specify the options to select for your current Jailbreak. We are so close and almost ready! If you click on Install Cydia, and this is a mandatory option too, you can make sure once more that any other option you want has been ticked as well, and you now also need to select the Next button. We are almost at the end of our guide. Just bare a little more to get there.

Step 8

So now that you have double checked if  you have specified your Jailbreak options you can click the next button and RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b will automatically starts its jailbreaking process. But there is something very important for you to do now, and that is to really sit back and relax. You need at this stage to really refrain yourself from bringing any interruption once that  RedSnow has started the jailbreaking process on your device. You are  not allowed to use your computer while this happens, or interrupt the process at all, otherwise it will fail to succeed and you do not actually want that. Just chill back. Once the process ends, then your iOS device will automatically have to reboot into a non-jailbroken state. And this is when the tethered jailbreak state kicks in. If you want to boot your device, you need to make sure you make use of RedSnow in doing so. So please put your phone back in DFU mode and use RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b to boot it back into a functional and also Jailbroken state, as mentioned . This is a pretty basic and simple process so no issues in performing it whatsoever should arise.

Step 7

So now that we are at the end we still have to bring into the light only a few more ideas. Each and every time when your iPad shall lose power, in order to help it regain all its functions you need to plug it in your computer. Any time this might happen, I repeat. First of all, you have to relaunch RedSnow again and then you will see the Extras option and you need to select it, and then simply click the Just Boot program. Nice and easy, right? DFU mode need to be turned on now and this will help your device to boot into a jailbroken state, exactly what we were hoping for. This will have to be repeated every time your device loses power, but this isn’t necessarily a reason to worry about. I would rather be more happy about having a jilbroken iPad 1G running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware. Hooray!
