How To Jailbreak iOS 5.1 With The Use Of Redsn0w Tool

The 5.1 firmware version has been around for a while now and the smartest thing to do now is by all means stay away from updating your iOS version if you want to keep the jailbreak solution possible for your iPhone/iPad. Now that you have been warned, you can be the happy owner of a jailbroken iOS 5.1 device as long as it’s an older A4 device (any device launched before the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4s, in which case you can update to iOS 5.1.1 an use our jailbreak guide here). It is also possible if you were cautious and saved your SHSH blobs to downgrade your device back to the respective previous firmwares. Even if you own a A5 powered device you can still downgrade using RedSn0w 0.9.11b1, but that is a different story.
Update:? A new version of RedSnow – Beta 7 of RedSn0w 0.9.10was released making it able to perform an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.01 for iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.
The latest version avaialbe of? RedSn0w is 0.9.14b2? and yes you can find it on our dedicated download page.
The latest iOs version that RedSn0w can handle and perform an untethered jailbreak using RedSn0w is 5.1.1.
RedSn0w is also able to Jailbreak iOS 6.0 Beta.
Before we proceed you must know that this is a tethered jailbreak solution, but it pretty much the same for the untethered solution except step number 6.? This being said, let’s go ahead and jailbreak those devices!
1. Head to our dedicated Download Page and download a copy of the Redsnow 0.9.10b Tool the double click to open it.
2. Enter DFU mode from your device.
3.?You will now see a button with Jailbreak , click it and, Redsn0w will guide you through the whole process and find exactly what firmware you need.
4. RedSnow will now kindly ask you to install Cydia (please pay attention and double check is selected) then go to the next step by simply clicking next button.
5. Now your iPhone/iPad screen will display a lot of text that scrolls very fast and in the end it will automatically return to the Home screen. Do not panic it’s a normal thing. Up next, you will be able to locate Cydia on your device under a white icon (the reason why you have to perform a tethered boot)
6. Go back into DFU mode with your iPhone/iPad/iPod and then click again on RedSnow then on Just boot button, this way performing a so called tethered boot. Now head to your Home screen and notice the normal Cydia icon that has just surfaced. Remember that each time you reboot your iPhone/iPad/iPod you have to go through step number 6 again!!!
7. Congratulations you are now the proud owner of a Jailbroken 5.1 device.
Last but not least, if you made the mistake and updated your A5 device to ios 5.1 firmware (iPhone 4S, iPad 2) and you don’t care about a future unlock solution you can always update again to 5.1.1 and enjoy the possibilities of an iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak solution thanks to Absinthe Tool.
