Jailbreak iPad 3 running iOS 6.1 with evasi0n on Mac OS X
We must give some special thanks to the evad3rs team! Finally, the evasi0n application they created was launched on the market. This new tool will be able to help you with the jailbreak of the iOS 6. As we did before, we are here to help you understand the jailbreak process and to give you all the information you need in order to use a jailbroken version of this firmware. Today the steps we will show you, teach you how to jailbreak your iPad3 using the evasi0n tool on Mac OS X.
Even though we will present you in this article how to get your own jailbroken firmware running on iPad 3 by using Mac OS X, keep in mind that his new tool is able to work with all types of iOS 6, and we refer here to iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2. and even iOS 6.1, which is the latest. More than that, the users of Windows and Linux can be happy too, because soon we will let them know how to jailbreak their devices too. So as you can see the evasi0n tool it`s an awesome and helpful application, and all the credits go to the evad3rs team.
We want to let you guys know, that we have tried this app, and we are happy to confirm you that it`s really working on all iOS 6 devices ( not with Apple TV devices, though). So soon you will also receive all the info for other gadgets such as and iPod touch 5G, iPod touch 4G and iPhones: iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, iPads like iPad 5 and iPad mini. And also how to get jailbroken firmwares for those no matter the operating system you use ( whether we are talking about Windows, Linux or Mac OS X ). But for the moment let`s just stick with the jailbreak of the iOS 6 running on iPad 3.
Note: First of all, don’t forget to back up your data. Even though usually there are no risks, you shouldn’t take your chances. You can never know what could go wrong. Second of all, remember that we told you in the beginning of the preparation tutorial that in order for the evasi0n to work properly, your iPad 3 must be updated on one of the iOS 6 versions whether it is just iOS 6 or iOS 6.0.2, iOS 6.0.1 and iOS 6.0. If you didn’t do this by now, it is time to update. Also, don’t try to jailbreak your Apple TV device, this tool doesn’t apply to this kind of devices. So, if you’re iPad 3 is already updated to iOS 6 firmware and you already made your backups, you’re ready for the jailbreak.
Step 1: In the first step, like always, you should download the evasi0n tool for Mac and extract the folder into your computer. Feel free to use our download page to get the program.
Step 2: Moving into step two, just open the folder and after that you should open the evasi0n app by double clicking on it in order to move on the next step.
Step 3: Now, if you have a passcode on your iPad 3, you will need to turn it off in order to move on with the jailbreak process. So just launch Settings, move to General and after that on the option Passcode Lock and select from the list you see the Turn Passcode Off option.
Step4: After the change you just made at step 3, you`ll need to cable your iPad 3 to your machine and move to the next step.
Step 5: Once your iPad 3 is plugged into the computer, the tool evasi0n should start trying to identify your device. When the device is identified as being compatible, you will see the button Jailbreak become active and you will be able to click on it.
Step 6: All you have to do now, is to click the Jailbreak button, and as you probably expected, the process of jailbreaking will start immediately.
Step 7: The next action will last a while, because during, the system has to perform a series of important steps like: injecting jailbreak data, preparing jailbreak data, rebooting the device, uploading Cydia and its packages list and rebooting the device, not necessarily in this order. Don’t worry, you’ll know when the process is finished because your device will reboot.
Step 8: If you had enough patience, and all the steps from the step 7 are finished, you will be able to see a new message on your iPad 3 screen, and you should move on to unlocking your device. After unlocking your device, move to the second page of your Home screen and you should be able to visualize the new icon installed on your iPad 3. It`s named “Jailbreak”, and you should tap on it, only ONCE. Keep this in mind, because it`s very important to tap it just once. After that, the screen of your device will turn black and it will return in a few seconds to the screen Home.
Step9: At step nine, after you tapped on the app, you should see some messages such as Root Filesystem successfully remounted on the tool evasi0n, it will inject the jailbreak information and data containing messages.
Step 10: Now, your device should restart, but not before you see the message “Done!” on the evasi0n application, which means that the process just finished. The first configuration should last longer, so when your iPad 3 reboots, just be patient and let the evasi0n tool do its job. Keep calm and don`t touch anything, because most likely your gadget will restart more than once. Be patient, you`re almost done!
Step 11: You will know when the process from step 10 ends, because you will be able to see that your screen has turned white on the background with a big Evasi0n logo. In the beginning, some short messages will appear on your screen. You must be quite focused on your iPad to see them, they can be really brief. The content of those messages is:
- Settup for AFC2 and fstab
- Settup for Cydia
- Settup for Cydia and its packages
- Clearance of the SpringBoard Cache
- Reboot
After seeing all those brief messages ( so brief that you could miss them if you don`t focus on the screen), your device should reboot. After that, you will be able to see again, the same Evasi0n logo and the white background, and some other messages will appear. This time they will include:
- Initialize of offsets
- Find the offsets
- Patch the kernel
- Clean up!
- Done! Continuing boot
At the end of these last steps, the jailbreak process should be over, and your iPad 3 will return to the Lock screen.
Your next move would be the unlocking of your iPad. So slide to unlock and then swipe over a page or two until you get ( depending on how many apps you have installed) to Cydia app. Launch Cydia. Keep in mind that at the first launch of this app, Cydia will take a lillte bit longer to load since it has to initialize. But this won’t take more than one or two minutes. After that, the screen Lock will appear on your device, but this is the last time. Now you know: Unlock, launch Cydia and pick the user type.
Congrats my friend, in this moment you can fully enjoy your iPad 3, because your device using iOS 6 should be jailbroken! If you are interested in finding more details that might help you, just go through the info we posted below.
Notes: As we told you at the beginning of this post, the evasi0n tool is not working yet for Apple TV devices not even for Apple TV 3 jailbreak, but we are sure that soon enough we will be able to help you with that too.
After the completion of the jailbreak, don`t forget to go back to Settings and turn on the passcode lock, if you disabled that option at step 3.
Keep in mind that this guide is only for clients that use the operating system Mac OS X. Stay tuned and you will have soon the tutorials for the other operating systems ( Windows and Linux).
