Jailbreak iPad 4 running on iOS 6.1 using evasi0n on Mac OS X

Jailbreaking is a subject that has come back to the readers’ attention, as a new tool called evasion has been released by the evad3rs team. Why is it useful? It has the advantage of allowing you to jailbreak iOS 6 with ease, even if you are not a professional.

Want to try it? Have you heard of it and been waiting for the release?

In order to make the things even more clear for you and the jailbreak steps easy to follow, we will take them one by one in the present article and explain them to you. After reading it you will be able to jailbreak iOS on your iPad 4 without any problem.

The evad3rs found solutions so that the new tool, evasion, works on all versions of iOS 6, including  iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2, iOS 6.1. What is the most important is that it allows the user to jailbreak using different operating systems, such as Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. So, if you want to jailbreak your iPad 4 easily, you can do it on the operationg system you are most familiar with.

It is important to know that evasion gives you the possibility to have an untethered jailbreak. It is the most wanted type of jailbreak, as you may run Cydia apps and tweaks, without having to reboot (this implies a computer also) each time, as in the case of tethered jailbreak.

You should know that this tutorial might apply to any compatible device using iOS 6 (any of the versions, as stated before). Still, we are going to focus on iPhone 5  and we will start by jailbreaking using the tool on Mac OS X. Don’t worry though, we will focus on Windows and Linux also, but this is another chapter. So, let’s start.

Note: If your device doesn’t have the iOS 6 firmware installed, you will need to upgrade to one of the supported versions ( iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2, or iOS 6.1). Also, you should be aware of the fact that you have to back up your files on the device. We keep telling you this information in order to avoid losing data during the jailbreak process. In theory there should be no problems, but it is recommended to do this operation every time you proceed to changing a tool or upgrading.

The next step-by-step tutorial is dedicated to iPad 4, but it might apply to any other supported iOS device, except Apple TVs. Also, be careful to use the operating system the tutorial is created for.

Now, let’s proceed, taking each step, one by one. Please follow each one in order not to go back and repeat the whole process in order to have a successful jailbreak of your iPad 4.

Step 1/ Follow the provided link in order to download evasion for Mac. Extract the package and proceed to step 2. Alternatively, you can download evasion from any trustful source.

Step 2/ Go to your Mac desktop and double-click the evasion icon, in order to run the application.

Step 3/ Now go back to your device and disable the pass code lock, if you have one. If you don’t have one, just skip this step. You disable the pass code as it follows: Go to Settings , tap on General,  Pass code lock and select turn pass code off (you will be asked to tap it before you disable it, for security matters)

Step 4/ or step 3 just in case you didn’t have any password for the iPad. Plug your iPad into the computer you have saved the evasion to.

Step 5/ You should see on the screen a message welcoming you to the evasiOn untethered jailbreak. The message will also tell you that the iPad 4 has been detected and that you need to click the button in order to begin the process. So, the moment the device is detected, the jailbreak button will become active.  Also, you will see on the screen the message recommending you to create a backup of your device. As we said earlier the tool does not guarantee for the safety of the iPad’s data.

Step 6/ Click the jailbreak button and you will see that the jailbreak process instantly begins.

Step 7/ This is the step that requires patience. Starting with preparing jailbreak data, some automatic steps will be completed by evasion. Some of the steps include rebooting the device, uploading Cydia and its packages list and also injecting jailbreak data. So, don’t panic if you’re screen seems frozen,  as these operations might take a while. You can abandon the device and do something else, while it does its job. We recommend to reboot the device as we are not familiar with the tool, being a new released one.

Step 8/ After all the operations in step 7 have been completed, you will see a screen which will ask you to unlock your iPad. At this point an icon called “Jailbreak” should already be created on the Home screen. You will recognise it as it has an arrow which is oriented to the left side of the screen.

Now tap the app icon and the screen should become all black and then return to the Home screen. If this takes a while, don’t panic and don’t tap the Jailbreak app icon more than once. It will work by itself, just breathe and wait.

Step 9/ The hard part is almost over. Now the tool will do its job. You will see on the screen messages such as “injecting remount payload”, “root filesystem successfully remounted”, “injecting jailbreak data step 3″. All you have to do is be patient and wait in order to go to step 10.

Step 10/ The evasion tool will let you know that the operation until now went good and a “Done” message will appear on the screen.  You will also be announced that the reboot might take a while, longer than the usual reboots. Also, the device might restart while the operation. So, wait for the jailbreak to complete.Wait..wait..wait…and ready! Now that the iPad has been successfully reboot all you have to do is proceed to step 11 and finish the jailbreak.

Step 11/ Once the reboot is complete, you will see the Evasion logo on the white background. Also, it will start the Clean up process, after which it will continue to boot. You will see messages such as: Setting up fstab and AFC2, Setting up Cydia, Setting up Cydia packages, Clearing SpringBoard Cache, Rebooting.

The steps will not be time-consuming, still, you should be patient, in order to complete the jailbreak. Some of the messages will be: Initializing offset, Finding offsets, Patching kernel, then Cleaning up and the final step Done! Continuing boot. The jailbreak process will be completed only after you will get back to your Lock screen and complete the last steps. So, unlock your device, then go to the second page of the Home screen (or, if you have more apps another page of the Home screen). Find the Cydia app and open it. Don’t panic if it takes more than you would have expected, as when you launch the app for the first time, it will have to initialize, and it might take longer. After the initialization is completed, you will go back to the Lock screen for the last time. Then, unlock the device again, open the Cydia app and choose your user type.

And…congratulations! You have completed all the operations and the iOS iPAD 4 device is now jailbroken. There are some things you should know before you complete the operation, so, in order to find out more about this subject, you should read the information below.

If you want to set a passcode lock on your device again, you can do it after the jailbreak is complete. Don’t forget you removed the previous one in step 3 of the jailbreaking, if you had one.
