How to jailbreak iPhone 3GS running iOS 6.0.1 Tethered with Sn0wbreeze on Windows
We are happy to have witnessed the most recent release coming from?H8Sn0w for the?Sn0wBreeze v2.9.7. What this brings new is support for the??iOS 6.0 and iOS 6.0.1 firmwares, but the newer devices are not included here, so if you have an iPhone 5 don’t get too excited. But if you do have an A4 device, get ready – this is a tethered-only jailbreak especially applicable to these type of devices.
If you are familiar with the jailbreaking actions you need to take with RedSnow, then let us break it to you that you pretty much need to forget those steps and embark with us on a different journey for a different jailbreaking experience with SnowBreeze, that obviously uses different tools. This is where the?firmware file intervenes in the jailbreaking process with SnowBreeze – SnowBreeze creates a custom IPSW that you need to restore to your iOS device prior to the jailbreaking process actually taking place. Things shall change however. For instance, we are not so happy to announce you that once this happens you will automatically lose all the content that you have saved on your device. However, there is also an advantage to this, and you will now be able to be part of the world of infinite customization of a jailbreak. ?It also gives unlockers the possibility to?update to the iOS 6.0/6.0.1 firmware without updating their baseband, so this is really a cool feature to it.
If you are therefore interested in knowing how to make use of?Sn0wBreeze to?Jailbreak your iPhone?4 (CDMA/GSM), iPhone 3GS and?iPod Touch 4G?tethered on the iOS 6.0/6.0.1 firmware, then just stick around and read this post very carefully. However, as an extra note we should mention that you shouldn’t really update to?the iOS 6.0.1 firmware because it might not be vulnerable to the Untethered Jailbreak that is currently being worked on, so you should put this on hold for now and instead of this, if you can, try to Jailbreak and restore to the iOS 6.0 firmware. This is a better option.
How To Jailbreak iOS 6.0/iOS 6.0.1 With SnowBreeze
Step 1
To start going with this you all you need to do is firstly?download Sn0wBreeze v2.9.7 and then you are ready to go on.
Step 2
As soon as you have finished with the download of?Sn0wBreeze v2.9.7, you have to proceed with extracting it?to your desktop. It’s an easy process.
Step 3
If you have also finished with this and have managed to successfully extract ?Sn0wBreeze, you will have to launch it. You can do the launching by simply double clicking the?sn0wbreeze-v2.9.7.exe?file. I am sure you were already familiar with the process. Once you have done this, you are automatically granted administrative privileges to SnowBreeze, so this is something worth mentioning.
Step 4
Once you launch?Sn0wBreeze for the first time, a?pop-up?window will appear by default, so don’t get too scared here when you see its warnings.
We highly recommend you read it?over thoroughly, and then click the?OK button?and you will be passed on on another screen. You need to also read through these notes and in order to continue simply click the blue arrow to go to the next level.
Step 5
This next step will mean two more options you need to select, starting with selecting the browsing button and then choosing the iOS 6.0 or 6.0.1 firmware you are trying to Jailbreak. Once you have managed to select the he iOS 6.0/6.0.1 firmware, SnowBreeze immediately starts to detect the?appropriate firmware file, and once the processing is over, then a few notifications will pop up. All you need to do is click on the blue arrow in order to continue.
Step 6
Once a new screen appears after you have performed Step 5, you will have to choose from 4 different options, and these are iFaithMode,?Simple?Mode, Expert?Mode and?Baseband Preservation?Mode. In order to make it a little bit clearer, let’s see what these mean exactly:
1. iFaith Mode:?This mode will enable you to create a custom ipsw that will include the ?previously saved SHSH blobs?(which are very useful when downgrading)
2. Simple Mode:?This mode will start to create your custom iOS 6.0/6.0.1?IPSW automatically without your having to select any customization options.
3. Expert Mode:?This mode will give you a few options for customizing your Jailbreak prior to creating your custom iOS 6.0/6.0.1 IPSW.
4. Baseband Preservation Mode:?This mode is solely useful if you want to upgrade to the latest6.0/6.0.1 firmware without having to update your baseband and without?Jailbreaking your iPhone.
Never will your ?iPhone?s baseband be updated with Sn0wBreeze, no matter what mode you might choose.
Continuing, what you need to select here is the?Expert mode, so just click on it in order to do so.
Step 7
It is here in this screen when your actual customization process begins, so buckle up, the excitement shall begin. You need to click the General Start button to get going.
Step 8
Once you have selected the General option, you will be taken to the General screen, and asked or allowed to select a series of possibilities in order to customize your Jailbreak. Let’s have a look at these options so that you can decide which one you need to choose.
- Enable Battery-Percentage:?This option will add a small percentage number next to your battery icon (located in the status bar).
- Activate The iPhone [hacktivate]:?This option will help you activate your iPhone, if you are unlocked, so it’s a great one.
- Install SSH:?This option will enable you to install an SSH service and also permit you to view your iDevice?s filesystem.
- Root Partition Size:?This option will change the size that is normally allocated to Jailbroken apps, but perhaps it would be best to leave it as the default size.
Now that you have seen all the options, just select the ones you want and simply click on the blue arrow in order to apply them to your jailbreak.
Step 9
It is in this step when you will be able to start pre-installing tweaks (which are, as you know,?3rd party applications). All you need to do is look for apps/tweaks and as soon as you found the ones you want to install, simply proceed by selecting them. If you think you have finalized the search and selection and you want to continue, you need to click on the blue arrow.
Step 10
This step takes you back to the customization home screen once again, only that you need to select another option this time.
So just select the Build IPSW option and in order to continue with this jailbreaking you have to click the blue arrow.
Step 11
The options you have previously selected will now be implemented into customization with?Sn0wBreeze, and the timeframe for this process to end can vary between only 5 minutes or even half an hour. This is basically pretty much up to the speed of your computer, hence patience is recommended. ?Don’t be surprised by the following: Sn0wBreeze has the ability to play PacMac?while it’s creating your custom IPSW.?It is on your desktop that your firmware created file will be placed as soon as the process is completed.
Step 12
Once your custom IPSW has finally been created, then you need to put your iDevice into DFU mode and you can give it the start to this process by simply clicking on the?OK button.
Everything is pretty basic from here on. When you click the OK button you then only simply need to follow Sn0wBreeze?s real-time DFU mode instructions, and everything is going to go well. Once you have followed all instructions, your iDevice will be in DFU mode and only then can you start to restore your custom IPSW firmware file. How great is that.
Step 13
You really need to read those instructions thoroughly and act exactly accordingly. After you do this as such, iTunes should launch. You will therefore be prompt by Sn0wBreeze saying iReb?is successfully up and running, and you can go back to iTunes and?SHIFT?click the restore button. Once you have performed this action as well, then you can now choose your custom IPSW firmware file (that is located on your desktop, as previously mentioned) to restore to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, depending on your device.
Step 14
Once the restore is finished, you need to?boot your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, as this was a tethered iOS 6./6.0.1?jailbreak. How can you do this? Well you will be using iBooty, which is basically a tool created by?iH8Sn0w especially for this purpose. What will happen is for iBooty ?to be extracted to your desktop once you have created a custom?iOS 6./6.0.1?firmware file through Sn0wBreeze v2.9.7. We suggest you go to iBooty once it appears on your desktop, and just go inside its folder and?double click on the iBooty.exe to launch iBooty. You will be popped up with a message?saying that this software is not for commercial use and then immediately you will be brought to another screen as well.
Step 15
We have come at the finish line together and the journey has been great, we must admit. But there is still something else for you to do, and that is to check the drop down list and then select your iDevice, then click on the Start button. What you need to do now is to put your iDevice into DFU mode after you carefully also check the?on-board instructions in this sense, and your device will then boot in a jailbroken state, so our mission here is over.
Thanks for staying with us until the very end as your device should now be in a?Jailbroken state on the iOS?iOS 6./6.0.1 firmware tethered. Don’t hesitate to make the best out of this now and experience with your new tweaks! Please also do not hesitate to give us any feedback and we are looking forward for your notes on how your experience has improved.
