Skype for iPhone How to setup Skype on the iPhone

If you use an iPhone, then SkyPe is a must. Te app has become the most popular VoIP app on the app store and much of this is thanks to the fact that it is available on a wide range of devices ranging from Android to your Windows computer. Not only can you make free video calls from Skype to Skype but the app also allows you to make paid calls. If you have an iPhone this could mean that the carrier plan you’re paying for just got cheaper.

Skype also allows one to chat and it offers you the possibility to view other people’s desktop and transfer files between your Skype client and another Skype client.

Setting up Skype on your iPhone is pretty easy but we’re covering it anyway.

First you must download the application from the App Store. Skype is a free app and it should take seconds to install it. You will be asked for your login credentials when you launch it for the first time. You can register for a new account or – if you already have an account – use your login and password to sign in. The first screen you will see once you have logged in is the Contacts screen.

First time users will only see a single contact – this is the test call you get to make to ensure that your device is able to make and receive calls. You can play around with it and set your volume to get a feeling of how Skype works. Other options in this screen are Call, Messages, Contacts and My Info. You can change your personal information from this last screen.

The My Info section gives you a summary of your status, show you how many credits you have left (if you opted to buy some), shows you your profile information and much more. Skype-to-Skype video calls are free but you can also buy extra credits to be able to make calls to a group of people. Skype gives you the opportunity to make group video calls and send SMS messages cheaper than your carrier.

Visit Skype.com for a full list of features available when you buy credits. There is a Skype Premium option but you can also opt for a Pay-as-you-go plan. Credits must be purchased through a web browser and cannot be bought from within the app itself, so you’ll have to use a PC or a Mac to do it.

Skype offers great clarity when it comes to video calls and the audio part is one of the best available on any device while using an app. Apple’s FaceTime is limited to devices running iOS or OS X but Skype can make calls on almost any platform and operating system.
