How To Use iMessage To Send Any Map Location

Did you know you can use iMessage for other things than sending messages? For example, if you want to share your location with someone you can use the same feature in a few simple steps. If you got lost or just want to let your friends know the location of the restaurant you’re eating in, you first have to launch Maps. There’s a location arrow you need to tap in the main screen, located in the bottom-left corner.

If you updated to the new iOS 6, and you use the new Apple maps, and you want to add new locations please check our full guide here.

The blue dot on the screen will show your current location if you tap it. There’s also a blue arrow on the popup text and it will present you with details about your current location. Now tap Share Location (look for it at the bottom of your screen). Select Message from the next menu (right below Email and above the Tweet option). Pick a contact to which you wish to send the message. Now press Send and the message will be delivered to this contact.

The person you messaged will get a notification containing your current location. If they also use an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, they’ll be able to bring up Maps when they click the message and they will see your location on the screen. It’s easier to find someone in a big city if they give you their exact location.
