It seems that more and more people after deciding to buy a tablet with no voice capabilities still want to have it all under one device. For me it would not make any sense buying an iPad Mini without owning an iPhone or any other mobile phone too. But these are your needs and questions and I am only here to help not to criticize.
Although the Apple company has not designed its iPad series with voice services in mind you can still follow this guide and be able to call your friends anywhere in the world assuming that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network or you own the 3G model. In short terms all you need to have is a stable internet connection and of course battery life. Those being said let’s get started with the actual guide on how to use your iPad mini as a mobile phone.
How to turn your iPad mini into a phone
The first thing you should make sure you have is a Google Voice account. If you don’t have one you can create one by following this link. Go ahead and setup your Google Voice account by following the steps provided by the Google website there. If you already own a Google Voice account just go ahead and use you’re existing email adress that you have associated with your Google Voice account.
So what you going to do next is you’ll have to go to the App Store app and search for an app named Talkatone and go ahead and download it to your iPad Mini then install it. After you installed the Talkatone app go ahead and open it. The app will walk you through setup and will ask you to log in to your Google Voice account using your email and password. Afterwards it will automatically pull all your phone calls form your Google Voice account and populate the app. The app will also let you know which of your contacts are using Talkatone.
There you have it guys! You can now make phone calls anywhere in the world and people can call you using your iPad Mini as well as send or receive text messages.
