Write Longer Than 140 Word Tweets Using TweetAmplius

If you are a Twitter user, you probably know there is a character limit that the social network (or should we call it a microblogging service?) imposed for sending a message (or tweet as they are called). You cannot use more than 140 characters in a tweet. We like Twitter – we use it daily and we follow and are followed by a lot of people; however we can’t really say that we are fans of the character limit. There are several workarounds, like an URL shortener for example but in the long run I think you will find that they are not as simple as they should be and just complicate things. And if you are like us and would like to bypass the 140 characters per tweet limit in a simpler way, without resorting to an URL shortener, you will be glad to know that you can thanks to TweetAmplius.
Developed by Ariel Aouizerate and Daniel Ferreira, the TweetAmplius (which would translate as ‘tweet more’ from Latin) tweak will help you bypass Twitter’s 140 characters per tweet limit, allowing you to write messages that are as long as you want. Not only that, but it is worth mentioning that the tweak will also let you send DMs (direct messages) longer than 140 characters. As it is a Jailbreak tweak, you will of course need to have a Jailbroken iPhone / iPad or iPod touch. So far, the TweetAmplius tweak will only work with the 5.x version of the Twitter Official App and also with version 2.6.2 of TweetBot. However, support for other Twitter clients may be added in the future.
To use this tweak on your Jailbroken iDevice, you only need to download and install it from Cydia and it will integrate with the Twitter App (ver 5.x) and with TweetBot (ver 2.6.2). The TweetAmplius tweak makes use of is.gd links. After it is installed, whenever you write a tweet that is longer than the 140 character limit, in either the Twitter App or in TweetBot, your tweet will be shown as a few words (the first of your tweet) followed by an is.gd link which makes for an impeccable, automatic integration. Also, you will notice that as you approach the Twitter character limit, TweetAmplius will change the character counter that shows how many characters you have left, with three dots that denote the fact that the is.gd link is used in your tweet.
We already mentioned what you need to be able to run this very useful tweak, but we will mention the requirements again: you will need to have a Jailbroken iDevice (it works on any iDevice) in order to be able to use the tweak, and either TweetBot (the only supported version being 2.6.2) or the official Twitter App (in any 5.x version) as they are the only Apps supported so far (but that may change in the future as the developers may add support for other Tweeting Apps). What we did not tell you is that TweetAmplius is a free tweak so head over to Cydia and download it – you will find it in the BigBoss Repo.. There is nothing to configure, just install and use the Twitter app or TweetBot.
Reading the article we made it seem as if this Jailbreak tweak is without flaws and while it is a specialized tweak that only does one thing (and it does it good and seamless we might add), there are a few inherent shortcomings that come with it. One of them and probably the most important and noteworthy one is the fact that even though the tweak does bypass the 140 character limit imposed by Twitter, (as we already mentioned) only a part of your tweet will be shown on Twitter, as the rest of your Tweet will consist of a link that you will have to follow in order to view your full and complete tweet. Even so, it is still better than an URL shortener and other types of similar services, simply because everything is automated and you won’t have to use other Apps and because it is very nicely integrated into the official Twitter App (and into the TweetBot App) so you will tweet and use Twitter as you’d normally do.
That said, even with this minor flaw, TweetAmplius is a very handy tweak that will help you send longer tweets and direct messages than the standard 140 characters per message allowed on Twitter. It is not perfect and you could find some dedicated Twitter Apps that may offer the same option to bypass the character limit, but TweetAmplius has an advantage over them: it does the same thing and it does it for free, with great integration into two Twitter Apps. If you own a Jailbroken iDevice and you are a Twitter user, there is no reason not to try TweetAmplius.
