iOS 6.1.4 Update for iPhone 5 Now Available for Download
Apple rolled out the iOS 6.1.4 update exclusively for the the iPhone 5, and the new version of our beloved operating system is bringing an “update audio profile for speakerphone.” iOS 6.1.4 is not available for other Apple devices, and besides the new audio profile improvement, it doesn’t seem to bring any changes, having a size of only 11.5 MB in the OTA version. Apple announced that the iOS 6.1.4 update will be rolled out to implement some changes in the VPN system, but it seems that the Cupertino-based company only went for a minor update.
In case you didn’t receive the software update notification and in case you don’t know it already, in order to install iOS 6.1.4 on your iPhone 5 will will have to head to Settings > General > Software update.
Since there are no major improvements brought by the iOS 6.1.4 update for iPhone 5 there are probably many of you who wonder whether it worth to upgrade or not. Well, the answer to this questions depends on two aspects: the iPhone 5 users who have made the jailbreak and those who didn’t.
If you already jailbroke your iPhone 5 and you want to keep it that way, then the answer is simple: don’t install the iOS 6.1.3 or iOS 6.1.4 updates. By doing so you will unjailbreak your iPhone, and the changes brought by the latest two iOS updates are not too important to worth the “sacrifice.” Anyway, you can’t jailbreak your iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1.3 or iOS 6.1.4, so don’t ask.
If you didn’t jailbreak your iPhone 5, then you have no reason not to update your terminal to iOS 6.1.4. Even though the new firmware update might bring other improvements than the one mentioned in the changelog, like improved battery life or various bug fixes, if you are pleased with the way your iPhone 5 runs on an older iOS 6 version, then keep it.
I case you have some functionality problems with an older iOS 6 version, then you can install iOS 6.1.3 on your iPhone 5 in an attempt to fix them, even though no one can guarantee it will happen.
