iPad Mini Sales Exceed 9.7″ iPad Faster Than Expected

Flash news!It seems like it`s already a fact, that the iPad mini and its 7.9 inch is beating on sales, the well known Apple`s larger tablet. The reports are not only talking about a raise of sales in the iPad`s mini case, but a drop of sales in the 9. 7 inch iPad department as well. For example, if you didn`t know, in the interval of December and January, the shipping of the well known iPad, dropped pretty much (from 7.4 million to almost 1.3 million units). This is what we`ve heard about iPad, but on the other hand we have the new iPad mini which raised its shipping to over 5 million units. This is huge! All these info were extracted from the findings of NPD DisplaySearch (a hardware research company), which stated some of the recent rumors that came from the supply chains.
We can see clearly now, how the desire of the users changed, and changed the demand as well. So, in the present moment, it looks like the Apple`s consumers elect the small tablet and its tinny footprint, over the larger tablet. Knowing all these facts, the Apple analysts should reconsider the expectations for this year`s shipping.
As far as we know, they had totally different plans for 2013 sales. A few days ago, the NPD DisplaySearch stated that the initial plan of Apple`s company, was to sell about 60 million larger tablets (iPads) this year, and 40 million iPad mini items. They estimated 100 million units would be sold until the end of this year. But the unexpected happened, and the situation is contrary to the expectations.
In conclusion, the NPD decided to go with half than expected shipping of larger iPad in 2013. They also appreciate an amount of 88 million iPads would be sold during this year.
We all expect the sales on iPad mini to grow, more and more, especially if we think about the fact that the production of the smaller tablets was restricted because of the display production. As we could find out, this issue was solved somewhere in February, so it shouldn`t represent an obstacle anymore.
The rumors about the iPad`s mini success on the market, and how this affects the sales of the well known iPad, started in the very first moment when Apple proclaimed its 7.9 inch device. But, as always, the Apple company minimized the consequences of these rumors. The executives of the company, stated at the beginning of this year that they are aware of the fact that, new devices usually affect the shipping of previous products. We all know they refer to a real example, related to the iPad and iPhone, which determined the decrease of sales in iPod and Mac area.
Looking at the numbers, we are tempted to believe that the new iPad mini would be something more than just a smaller device wanted by some of the customers, more than just an extra tablet, as Apple believed initially. We think that in this case, the old iPad should come with new characteristics and it will be used by another segment of the market.
Before deciding to go with a Retina display for the new iPad mini, Apple believed that the segmentation of the market is a good idea. But the feedback received from the customers was very clear: they don`t need a segmentation. So the new reports related to iPad mini, say that it will incorporate a greater display as well.
The situation of iPad mini and 9.7 inch iPad was the same as the one of iPhone4, iPhone 4 S and iPhone 5, which can be simply named as iPhones. So, we know that Apple likes to believe there is sort of a segmentation of the market, and that they will be able to sell their products on different prices, to different customers, but the facts make us see that this is not possible.
As far as we know, in this very moment, the reports show us that the Apple users prefer to buy the $99 or free iPhone 4, and iPhone 4 S, despite the new iPhone 5. Even though, the last one is more advantageous and lower priced than its previous versions.
