iPad Mini with Retina Display Release Date Delayed Until 2014
The Mini version of the iPad tablet has impressed the public with its reduced weight and dimensions, doubled by a hardware platform that is still powerful to the date. Even though the iPad Mini sales matched the company’s expectations, the 7.9-inch iOS-powered tablet has disappointed with the low resolution of its display, thus the rumors saying that Apple will launch an iPad Mini with Retina Display didn’t fail to appear.
When will Apple actually upgrade the iPad Mini with a Retina Display? Well, that’s a whole different story. Earlier this year it was rumored that the iPad Min is supposed to get a Retina Display this fall, but now it seems that the Cupertino-based giant has changed its mind. According to Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News, Apple has indeed planned an iPad Mini with Retina Display release date for the last quarter of the year, but it seems that production problems have forced the company to delay its launch for early 2014.
The jump to a higher resolution display has generated some problems for Apple in the past, when the third generation iPad was launched. The increase in pixels number is also increasing the battery consumption, as the lines become more dense, which determines another battery consumption jump, by increasing the back light illumination. In order to compensate these problems, new manufacturing technologies are required, and it seems their reliability is not matching Apple’s requirements.
Besides the upcoming iPad Mini with Retina Display, Economic Daily News writes that Apple will upgrade the current model that comes with a 1,024 x 768 pixels display, then after the Retina Model is announced, the upgraded iPad Mini will be kept in the company’s portfolio as an accessible options. It’s not the first time we hear such rumors about the future of the iPad Mini, thus it would be wiser to wait and see what the next few months will be revealing for us.
The current iPad Mini comes with a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels while being underpinned by a dual-core 1 GHz Apple A5 processor. The iPad Mini also comes with 512 MB of RAM, has a 5 megapixel camera mounted on its back, and three internal storage options 16/32/64 GB. In terms of connectivity, the iPad Mini comes with WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, and Apple’s proprietary Lightning port with USB 2.0.
The iPad Mini is 200 mm tall, 134.7 mm wide, 7.2 mm thin, weighs 312 grams and is powered by a non-removable Li-Po battery (16.3 Wh).
