iPhone Trade-In Programs From Apple And Retailers

If you are one of the many people looking forward to the iPhone 5S or even the iPhone 6, but you don’t think you can afford one on release date, think again as it is now very easy to get an iPhone 5S or an iPhone 6 on release thanks to a couple of trade-in deals that were just announced. One of these deals is from Apple, while the other deal is from Gazelle, an online reCommerce service.

Gazelle has quite a few very good deals for owners of Apple’s iPhone 5 or below, and now it seems that it makes these deals even better as it is extending the lock period for any price by October 15th. This will help people that intend to buy an iPhone 5S on release as they will get a particular price for the iPhone 5S (if they will exchange their old iPhone) even long after the rumored iPhone 5s release date on September 20th.

Gazelle mentioned that their price lock promotion will allow “savvy consumers to maximize the value of their old iPhone and lets them wait until after the new iPhone is here to send in their old one [...]“. You should keep in mind that Gazelle will determine the value of your iPhone model based on its present condition (both on the inside and on the outside). For example, if your old iPhone is in perfect working condition and has no nicks and scruffs, then it would be “enough to cover the full cost of upgrading to a new phone[...]” said a Gazelle spokesperson.

Of course, as you would expect unlocked iPhone models will give you the highest value, but Gazelle mentioned that telco issued smartphones are also welcomed and they will also take iPhone models from smaller service providers. The company accepts all iPhone models except the first generation iPhone for the trade-in program, but it mentioned that the later models are the ones that will get you the highest value. That means that if you have an iPhone 5 that looks like new, has no glitches and it works perfectly fine, then you will probably get around three hundred and thirty bucks (or even more) for it, enough to cover the price of a newly released iPhone 5S that comes with a two year contract.

As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, Apple (all but confirming that they have a wave of iOS 7 devices ready to unveil and release) is also going to start its own trade-in program, as it was suggested by a recent report. The report also mentions that this trade-in program seems to have been started with two goals in mind: one, to raise traffic on the Apple Store and two, to allow the Cupertino based giant to stock older iPad and iPhone models. It is suggested that these older iPad and iPhone models will be refurbished and sold in emerging markets around the world (such as India and Africa).

As with any trade-in program, all submitted iPhone / iPad models will go through an inspection process that will determine their monetary value. It must also be said that if you are planning to exchange an iPhone with an existing contract, you will need to first pay the termination fee with your carrier for a better transaction. As it was the case with Gazelle’s trade-in program, an unlocked iPhone (or iPad) model will get you the highest value (not to mention it is the easier to exchange).

Multiple reports claim that the trade-in deal is already ongoing in some Apple Stores from the United States, but the trade-in program is expected to fully begin not long after the iPhone 5S is unveiled and released. Apple is rumored to unveil the iPhone 5S on September 10 at a media event that Apple already announced. The rumored release date for the iPhone 5S is September 20, ten days after its rumored unveiling. It is also rumored that the iOS 7 based iPhone 5S will be launched alongside the rumored low budget iPhone 5C, first in the United States and Japane and then in other regions, in the following weeks.
