Make free voice calls on iPhone with Facebook Messenger

You use Facebook Messenger in order to talk to your friends but you sometimes want to tell more and hear the friend’s reaction regarding different stories you have to tell him? Now it is possible! You will be helped by the Skype-like VOip – which means voice over IP- audio calls.

Still, don’t leave Skype for good yet, as the tool has some disadvantages: it does not have the possibility of having International calls and it has no FaceTime style video calls for the moment. It is available for those of you staying or travelling in the US or Canada.

Facebook did not make the “how to call” process so clear and in some cases might get confusing.

In order to do this operation, you should follow some simple steps. Some of you might already have Facebook Messenger. If you are in the other category of those who don’t have it yet, then just go to the App Store and download it.

After you have successfully downloaded it, launch the application from the iPhone Home Screen.

At this point there are 2 situations:

1. you have already had a text message conversation with the person you want to call

2. you didn’t have any conversation with him/ her

In the first case, you just tap on the conversation, simple right?

In the second case, though, you should tap the compose button at the bottom right and then:

a. enter the name of the friend you want to call (supposing you are already friends on Facebook)

b. in the search results select the friend and tap on his name

c. Tap a message to him

d. Tap Send in order to send the message.

Then, if you have done this, you should tap on the info button in the right top side.

Here you will see the free call button, which is in the mid-screen, on the left. Now it will connect to your call. Remember, you have to both have wi-fi and be in the same region, as for now it is available only for US and Canada.

How do you receive incoming calls?

In order to have this possibility, you have to:

1. have Facebook Messenger running

or the second option:

2. use  the Push Notifications alert for incoming calls on. If not, you won’t be able to receive calls.

There might be a simple way to phone the others, the one without the text messages steps, but I couldn’t figure it out yet. If you did, please share with us.
