The Redmond giant presumes that the operating system of Windows Phone has a number of advantages over the competing platforms when it comes to the business segment. Thus, in Microsoft they believe that the Android ecosystem is too fragmented; furthermore, this operating system most often becomes the target of cybercriminals? activity. As for iOS, this software platform can be installed only on Apple smartphones, which are too expensive to mass-provide them to employees.

Microsoft expects to become a leader in the corporate smartphone market by mid-2015. The release of relatively inexpensive Windows devices at about $200 per unit has to facilitate this process. Such smartphones are expected to come out by the end of this year.

Microsoft plans to double its share in the smartphones consumer market by mid-next year.

As estimated, there were 279.4 million smartphones released worldwide in the first quarter of 2014. That is 29% more than last year. 81% of supplied devices run the Android operating system, 16% of them run iOS and only 3% of them run Windows Phone. Analysts believe that about 7% of all smartphones will be running Windows Phone by 2018.
