Microsoft has officially unveiled a new tablet Surface 3 running a full-fledged Windows. It is a budget version of the Surface Pro 3. The device got a more compact screen and a less efficient processor compared to the superior model.
The novelty has the same design as the Surface Pro 3 and is made of the same materials. At the same time, the Surface 3 works on a quadcore Intel Atom x7, while the Surface Pro 3 is equipped with an Intel i3 and above. The new tablet?s battery life lasts up to 10 hours of video playback. It also features a stylus pen with 256 pressure levels, a USB 3.0 port, a Micro USB charging slot and a stand with different positions.
The Surface 3 weighs 622 grams; it is 8.7 mm thin (the Surface Pro 3 weighs 800 grams and is 9 mm thin). The budget version sports a 10.8-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 ? 1280, while the Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch screen of 2160 ? 1440 resolution. The novelty is equipped with a 3.5-megapixel front and 8-megapixel main cameras, while its predecessor has both cameras of 5 megapixels.
The Surface 3 will go on sale with the pre-installed Windows 8.1. Consequently, the owner will be able to switch to Windows 10 for free. The buyers of the gadget will receive a free one-year Office 365 Personal subscription and 1 TB space on OneDrive.
The tablet will come bundled with a typecover of blue, bright blue, red, bright red and dark gray color. A docking station will also be available; it will enable connecting a monitor, a printer, a mouse or a keyboard to the device.
The Surface 3 will be priced at $499 (the Surface Pro 3 costs $799). The novelty will hit the market on May 5.
