Must Have Tweaks and Apps for Your Jailbroken iPhone

The iPhone is a pretty amazing device. Useful, shiny, built with the end user in mind. But not all that it can do is useful and not all apps will be available to you. It might be you will need to jailbreak your device to further extend its use. Jailbreaking allows one to open up one’s device to hacks and tweaks not approved by the developing company (in this case Apple). For example, jailbreaking opens up your device to allow using Siri even if you don’t have an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. Jailbreaking also gets one a new, separate App Store called Cydia. This app store is full of apps and tweaks and games that you won’t find in the official Apple App Store. So there are reasons you should go ahead and jailbreak your device.
Let’s take a look at some apps and tweaks and see how they might be able to help you.
Zephyr
This tweak will allow one to multitask in ways not permitted by the default iOS. Just like you would do in OS X while holding down Command + Tab, you will be able to swipe the screen of your iPhone and see running apps. You can swap between them and move amongst them from one window to the other. You won’t even have to leave the app you are currently in since you will be able to swipe upwards to get to the main navigation bar.
The cost of Zephyr is $3 and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
iCaughtU
This app will take photos of people who might have stolen your device and are now trying to get into it by trying random passwords. If you misplaced your iDevice or lost it, iCaugthU will deliver you images of the people who tried to get into your iPhone by taking pictures of them using the front camera. Whenever the password entered is deemed to be incorrect, ICaughtU will take a snapshot with the front-facing camera.
The images can be sent to your e-mail account and it can even display an alert for the finder of the phone, so he or she can get in contact with you should you lose it.
The cost of ICaughtU is $2.50 and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
Spire
You don’t have to have an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 to be able to use Siri. Spire will bring Siri to your iPad or iPod Touch or to older iPhones that not yet officially support Siri. You will have to use a proxy server to be able to use the app. There are free proxy servers and there are paid, more-reliable proxy server you might be able to use. Either way, you will be able to have Siri on your device.
The cost of Spire is $20/year and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
IntelliScreenX
If you would like to have various information on your iPhone 5′s screen, you can use IntelliScreenX. The app will put weather information and other precious data right on the lock screen of your device. It will display SMS messages, notifications, e-mail alert and much more. It also looks awesome so you can install it even if you only need some good-looking interface for your device. If you prefer simple text notifications install this app from the Cydia store.
The cost of IntelliScreenX is $10 and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
Color Keyboard
Yes – you guessed it: this application will bring a color keyboard to your screen. Some people like the classic look of the default iOS keyboard but if you would like a colorful one with a custom skin, you can try Color Keyboard. It allows one to change almost everything, from the background color of your on-screen keyboard to the fonts it uses.
The cost of Color Keyboard is $2 and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
Pull To Refresh Safari
This tweak is free and it may be used to refresh web pages by pulling them down wit your finger and releasing them. It brings a new feel to Safari and it will be very useful if you are an avid Facebook user.
Pull To Refresh Safari is free and you can get it from the Cydia store.
ManualCorrect
Tired of your iPhone always automatically correcting what you type? Try ManualCorrect. This tweak will suggest words to you and only apply them if you tap on them. This means you will never have to send unintentional garbled messages corrected by the default iOS auto correct. It also is more useful than completely turning Auto Correct off.
The cost of ManualCorrect is $2 and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
Ipsum
Whenever you get notifications on your iPhone you will need to first unlock your screen and then dismiss that notification after you have read it. With Ipsum you will be one step closer to this task since it will allow one to dismiss notifications without having to first unlock the device. Dismiss alerts, Titter messages, text messages and pretty much anything else by swiping on the screen to make these go away.
Ipsum is a free app and you can get it from the Cydia store.
Parallax
With Android device you are able to set up a background image and this image will be scrollable if you move between different desktops. Parallax brigs this functionality to iOS and allows one to scroll the background images one sets on his or hers screen. You can now use a panoramic or widescreen image and it will move around as you navigate through screens.
The cost of Parallax is $1.50 and you can buy it from the Cydia store.
Barrel
Barrel will turn your desktop into a cube. Simple as that. Much like Linux desktops can display a cube representing the six desktops it may use, this app brings the same functionality to your iOS device. It will allow one to scroll through the home pages of one’s iPhone as if they were the faces of a cube. Pretty nifty if you ask us. You can use it to impress your friends.
Barrel is a free app and you can get it from the Cydia store.
DreamBoard
If you need an alternative to Winterboard, you might as well try DreamBoard. It will allow you to replace your icons and do so by using an interface that looks pretty much like the one HTC Android phones use or Windows Phone uses. You can confuse people with it by displaying a Windows Phone interface on your iOS device. It uses free and paid themes but the app in itself is free.
DreamBoard is a free app and you can get it from the Cydia store.
