If you never heard of Spotify, it is a commercial music streaming service providing DRM content from a many major and independent record labels (among which we find Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group and Universal). As every modern service, it also available on iOS.

The iOS Spotify app has been updated this week and it now has a few new features. Probably the most interesting (and also most important) new feature is the “Discover” tab (which has recently appeared on Apple gadgets). The “Discover” option recommends you songs based on your listening preferences and playlist. However, the feature is not available to all users, but the devs say it’s “coming soon to everyone” so if it is not available to you yet, just a few days.

Another change brought by this recent update is a new “Now Playing” view for iPhone – whenever you search for a song or look at your playlist and play a new song, it does not immediately kick you out of the playlist or from search. Another new feature is the app icon (a flat look that matches Apple’s upcoming iOS 7 and Spotify’s identity refresh in the United States).

Here is the complete list of the fixes and features brought by the recent Spotify for iOS update:

  • New: Ever find yourself wondering what to play on Spotify? Introducing the new Discover experience on iPhone. (Coming soon to everyone.)
  • New: A shiny, new Now Playing view, featuring the ‘Up Next’ queue on iPhone. (Again, rolling out to everyone soon.)
  • New: Say hello to our new logo.
  • New: You can now edit your playlists on your iPhone.
  • Improved: We’ve changed the order of the iPhone search tabs. Now it’s Artists, Albums, Tracks. (iPhone/iPod only.)
  • Improved: We’ve moved the … context menu button in the Playlist and Album views to the top right of the screen. It’s better there. (iPhone/iPod only.)
  • Fixed: Ford integration now works correctly when your iPhone/iPod is set to a language other than English.
  • Fixed: In your playlist folders, “All Tracks” will now show you the actual number of tracks.
  • Fixed: We’ve sorted lots of crash issues too.
  • Fixed: The unread messages in your inbox will now update correctly.
  • Fictitious: This app shares 73% of its DNA with bees.

You can download Spotify for free from the App Store. However, you should know that depending on your location you may be required to pay subscription in order to use the service.
