New iPhone and iPad will have Improved Fingerprint Sensors

Ming-Chi Kuo, a notorious analyst of the KGI Securities argues that the new generation of the Apple-branded smartphones and tablets will get improved fingerprint sensors, causing the production of the later to increase multifold.
According to the expert, 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 smartphones will be released in the latter half of the year, along with the updated iPad Air and iPad mini tablets. All of these devices will have Touch ID modules of improved reliability. The production of these sensors is entrusted to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) company and its affiliate XinTec, argues Ming-Chi Kuo.
He predicted that this year the supply of the Touch ID fingerprint scanners can increase by 233%, reaching 120 million units. In 2015, the growth in shipments of these products will be around 94% and the output volume – 233 million. Earlier it was reported that TSMC would start producing Touch ID modules in the second quarter.
According to the analysts of the IHS, the last year’s sales of the smartphones equipped with fingerprint scanners reached 45.7 million units. In 2017, this figure is expected to reach 525 million units. AuthenTec, Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC) and Validity companies are considered the most important developers of the fingerprint sensors.
