The Nexus 5 is rumored to be unveiled very soon by Google, but as of now there is no official confirmation of the smartphone’s existence. However, a recent leak (straight from Google) shed light on the Nexus 5 internal storage sizes and its price tag. Android police, a tech website, got tipped about the Nexus 5 being displayed directly on the Google Play Store last Thursday. In there, under the Google Play devices splash page, the Nexus 5 could be seen together with the new Neuxs 7 tablet and the Nexus 10 tablet.

The Nexus 6 caption displayed the following text: “Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways”. The listing on the Google Play Store suggests the upcoming Nexus 5 smartphone will be released with a price starting at $349. The link directed to a placeholder page for the 16 GB model of the Nexus 5 (https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_5_black_16gb), suggesting that the 16 GB internal storage is the minimum storage option of the upcoming Nexus 5. A 32 GB internal storage option is also rumored to be available and it is thought it will be priced at $399.

The placeholder page is not online anymore and of course, the Google Play devices splash page is now showing the Nexus 4 instead of the Nexus 5, even though the Neuxs 4 has been discontinued for quite some time. Nobody knows whether this was an unfortunate accident for Google or if the company leaked the Nexus 5 on purpose, in the middle of all the hype surrounding the Nexus 5 and the upcoming version of the company’s mobile OS, Android 4.4 KitKat.

Besides the Nexus 5 being listed on the Google Play Store, another leak surfaced of an official press picture of the Nexus 5. The press photo came directly from Google’s image server. The page is not online anymore, however the image has already been saved and distributed on the Internet. The device displayed in the leaked press photo is consistent to all the other Nexus 5 related leaks that surfaced sine last month’s Android 4.4 KitKat unveiling. The Nexus 5 has the same design, matte texture, vertical wise branding and prominent camera sensor, that are now trade marks of the Nexus line.

On the Nexus 5′s display we can see what is supposedly a Nexus 5 specific wallpaper, that was previously leaked. Other notable things include the fact that the dialer and the camera app icon have been updated. It seems that the notifications icons in the status bar are not blue anymore – they are white. The navigation / status bar has also been changed from black to being transparent. Above the app shortcuts on the lower side of the display, there are dots now, that point to the various home screens. The same Nexus 5 display could be seen in the leak with the Telus (a Canadian carrier) branded Nexus 5. The Telus branded Nexus 5 was leaked only a few hours before the Google Play Store leaked the press image.

Google did not issue any official statements regarding the Nexus 5 release date. However, the latest rumors point to an unveiling even in about a week, on October 28th, when the Nexus 5 will be unveiled with the Android 4.4 KitKat Operating System. With these official press images of the Nexus 5 leaked on the Internet, Google will likely show the device in the near future. What are your thoughts on the upcoming Nexus 5?
