Samsung Galaxy S2 Will Be Stuck On Android 4.1.2

Despite an early week report, Samsung doesn’t seem to be doing so well with its impressive flagship handsets. If the new information we got is true, then we won’t be able to update our Galaxy S2 smartphones with the Android 4.2.2, meaning we will be stuck with the Android 4.1.2 firmware for now.

At the beginning of the year, we were given to see a leaked pre-list containing information regarding which Samsung handsets are going to be updated and to which Android firmware. Beneath the section with the 4.2.2  firmware updates, both the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note 2 were listed. However, these devices have already been through a lot of firmware updates, beginning with Android 2.3.6, followed by the 4.0.4 and 4.1.2. Of course, owners of these devices have enjoyed the news that they can update their phones once more.

However, just as in the case of any pre-launch rumor, things never go as intended in the beginning. Apparently, the company has faced some compatibility issues with the custom TouchWiz user interface, which left Samsung no choice but to cut the entire plan from the list and keep the Galaxy S2 on the current Android 4.1.2 firmware. But we still got some good news, referring to the Galaxy S2 Plus, which is still getting updated to the Android 4.2.2 firmware.

On the other hand, this doesn’t come very surprising considering that company’s such as Samsung and Apple keep coming out with new handset models every other year, leaving the old models far behind as they do. Besides, there is a lack of motivation in updating older models, knowing that the freshly-released Samsung Galaxy S4  came with four new versions and the company is preparing to release the Galaxy Note III. Regardless to this and to the fact the 4.2.2 isn’t that much of a big update, these news might still generate disappointment with some users.

Are these news affecting you in any way? Are you one of the owners of the devices that cannot longer be updated? What do you believe about the new information? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.
