Just past Wednesday Samsung rose the veil from their newest smartphone  creation, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

We believe this to be a smartphone, but what if it’s just one of their cameras?

Regardless to its final destination, the Galaxy S4 Zoom which is a combo between a high end camera and a smartphone, represents a step forward in Samsung’s evolution of their Galaxy S4 series of flagships.

If we look at the S4 Zoom device from the front it looks almost like a mini version of the S4, Samsung’s 4 inch flagship device which has been recently released.

When you look at it from the rear, it looks just like a camera.

The Samsung company seems to be pretty confident of the device’s double functionality but there are some tech analysts who aren’t so convinced about the device’s practicality, half camera and half phone.

Jonathan Geller, the chief editor of the tech website BGR stated for the Daily News that it’s like you would be having a camera on your face when talking on the phone.

Geller also mentioned that he doesn’t believe anyone would be happy to replace their current camera and smartphone with this hybrid. He also added that a normal S4 device is a better choice.

The Galaxy Zoom sport a camera of 16 megapixels with 10x optical zoom, which transforms the device in a fully equipped digital camera when needed.

You should also know that both the Samsung Galaxy S4 camera and the Apple iPhone 5 have 8 MP cameras.

Darren Murph, the managing editor of engadget. com stated the Galaxy S4 Zoom came out just because Samsung could pull it off.

He said the phone is a hybrid that exists because the giant afforded to first create it and think about the consequences after.

One of the features the device has integrated is the Zoom Ring which permits its owner to take a photo while being in a phone call, and also send it to the other person’s device while on the phone.

The devices also features functions such as a zenon flash, Samsung Smart Mode -which adjust  automatically the camera according to the existent conditions and has the capability of stabilizing images.

Regarding the phone part, the Zoom is running on Android’s Jelly Bean 4.2, has a 4.3 inches HD screen and a dual core chip of 1.5 GHz.

The Zoom will come with 8 GB internal memory which can be upgraded via microSD card up to 64 GB.

Samsung didn’t mention yet any information related to the release date or the price.

The new device is just another part of Samsung’s  strategy. So far they have been releasing niche versions of their flagship devices, such as the waterproof Galaxy S4 Active  and the cheaper version,  S4 mini.

Murph points out that these types of smartphones are stepping more and more over the line of the digital camera market. As for Samsung, thy thought that some of those who look for a new camera and a new smartphone, will simply buy the Zoom.

He also said that he doesn’t see Samsung selling too many units of this device, but he thinks that its great to see the technology being bent in such ways.
