Samsung Galaxy S5 Concept Video

Earlier this month we told you about Bob Freking and his “What Do You Want To See This 2014?” initiative. He was asking people what they want for the next Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, the Galaxy S5. Of course, since the Galaxy S4 was just released this April it is still fresh. Yet, people are already wondering what the next iteration in the Galaxy S line will bring to the table. Well, Bob Freking already made a design concept video, as he did for the Samsung Galaxy S4 a year before its release, for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5. You can .
The majority of the specs from the concept video are within reach and we may actually see them in the final product, come 2014. The specs wishlist is as follows:
- a 16 MP camera (the current Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 13 MP camera so a jump from 13 MP to 16 MP is entirely possible; it will be the same – when it comes to MP – to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom’s camera);
- optical image stabilization for the camera is another feature on the wishlist. Nokia already introduced this feature in their flagship smartphones; besides optical image stabilization, the wishlist also mentions 6x lossless zoom which Nokia also introduced in its smarthpone; both of these features can be found in the Nokia PureView 808. Considering that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will also feature optical image stabilization, it’s not far fetched to see this feature in the Samsung Galaxy S5, next year;
- Support for add-on lenses is another feature that can be found in the wishlist, though we are not sure how realist it is;
- Another feature on the wishlist is very good low light performance (with the Samsung Galaxy S5 taking in 10x more light); this is actually likely to happen if Samsung decides to follow HTC’s example. HTC had success with its HTC One’s low light performance so it’s possible that Samsung might also improve low light performance for its next gen Galaxy S.
- The design concept shows the Samsung Galaxy S5 with a waterproof aluminum back cover. Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S4 Active, a waterproof smartphone based on the Galaxy S4, so even though it is unlikely, a waterproof Galaxy S5 is possible. Regarding the aluminum back cover, we do believe that in time Samsung will move away from plastic smartphones and what better opportunity than with the next Galaxy S. Again, this is very possible.
- The concept design also describes that the Galaxy S5 will featured on screen buttons with fingerprint scanning. This is a featured rumored to be included in the next generation iPhone, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we will find it in the next generation Samsung Galaxy S5 as well.
- The Samsung Galaxy S5′s display, in this design concept, will keep its 5 inch size and a resolution of 1080p. This is quite possible as well, since 5 inch is just about perfect for a smartphone’s display; anything over 5 inch will go into phablet territory (like Samsung’s own Galaxy Note series). Maintaining a 5 inch size, the display will see improvements the design concept suggests.
- The next feature on the wishlist is actually a redesign of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. The design concept sees the next iteration of TouchWiz being gesture based, easier to use, cleaner, using less memory and removing gimmicks & bloat. While the gimmicks and bloat will probably remain, a gesture based TouchWiz is very likely.
- When it comes to hardware, the Samsung Galaxy S5 design concept has a 2 GHz octo core Exynos 6 CPU, which is quite possible. Samsung has a reputation for pushing hardware in its smartphone and some Galaxy S4 variants are already equipped with octo core CPUs. The Galaxy S5 design also has 4 GB of RAM (double the amount in the current Galaxy S4) and 64 GB of internal memory (though in reality, Samsung will surely have Galaxy S5 models with less internal memory).
- Another feature on the list is 4G LTE support (future proofed for 5G) which is likely as in Europe not everyone has 4G.
- Wireless charging is yet another feature, which is probably a certainty
- The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be (according to the design concept) lighter at only 120 grams and thinner at only 7 mm, than the Samsung Galaxy S4.
- The Galaxy S5 would come with a 4,000 mAh battery. A bigger battery is always good, as battery life is probably the number one downside of smarpthones, however a bigger battery might come in direct conflict with a slimmer Galaxy S5. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 2,600 mAh battery, so a 3,000 mAh battery would still be a step forward.
- What we find unlikely is the last feature on the wishlist: the Galaxy S5′s OS – Android 4.2 Jellybean. And the reason we find it unlikely is that by the time the smartphone will be released, we are sure that a newer Android version will be available. We expect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to come with the latest Android version (just like the Galaxy S4).
As you can see, most of the specs and features on this wishlist are entirely possible. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is not expected to be released before 2014 so there is a while before we will have the first information regarding its specs and features. But it will be interesting to see how many of the specs and features from this design concept video will make their way into the next generation Galaxy S.
