Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature A Metal Body

If you are used to Samsung smartphones, you probably know that the South Korean company uses plastic for its smartphones’ body. If you, just as many other, would rather Samsung ditched plastic and went for another material in building their smartphones, then we have good news for you. The news comes in the form of rumors that claim that starting with next year, Samsung will start using metal for its upcoming smartphones. The rumors come from ET News, a Korean news website that claims Samsung intends to improve its brand image and a first step towards this goal will be the inclusion of premium materials in its upcoming smartphones.
And the first smartphone to take advantage of Samsung’s new policy might be the Samsung Galaxy S5. Rumors suggest a smartphone with metal chassis (the top candidates being aluminum and magnesium) will be released ealrier next year, hence the assumption that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be the first smartphone from Samsung to feature a metal body. If the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be successfyl, Samsung will probably move from plastic to metal for all of its smartphones that will be released next year.
This strategy was also applied by HTC. The HTC One was released with an aluminum body; the HTC One Mini was too released with an aluminum body, but with small adjustments meant to keep the price low and to separate the Htc One Mini from high end models. The upcoming HTC One Max is also expected to be released with an aluminum body.
However, Samsung ditching plastic in favor of a metal body for its next generation smartphones, may also be bad news as it could meant Samsung’s upcoming smartphones won’t feature an user removable battery, a hallmark trademark of Samsung’s smartphone and a huge advantage over competing smartphones. Some of you probably know that the HTC One smartphone for the Chinese market comes with a removable rear panel; however, the panel only allows access to the SIM slots, not to the smartphone’s battery.
However, even if you are happy at the thought of a metallic body for the Samsung Galaxy S5, or sad at the thought that it may not feature a removable battery, please keep in mind that at the moment this is just a rumor and should be treated as such. This particular rumor also appeared before the Samsung Galaxy S4 was released and they proved to be false, as the Galaxy S4 was not released with a metallic body. It is also worth mentioning that a report from June 2013 mentioned Samsung’s Design 3.0 initiative. The Design 3.0 initiative included (among other things) investigating aluminum as a material to use for Samsung’s next generation smartphones.
For now, this is just a rumor so take it with a grain of salt. We will just have to wait and see if it will be confirmed, when Samsung will unveil the Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship, probably in early 2014. We believe that Samsung will ditch plastic, especially if they want to keep up from a design perspective.
