Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature A Carbon Fiber Body

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a powerful smartphone that deserves all the praise it received, but it also deserves all the complaints it received, the most common complain being the fact that its body is made of plastic. The plastic case is, in fact, one of the worst things about Samsung’s devices, as good as they are otherwise. However, all this might change in the coming year with the Samsung Galaxy S5. Samsung’s next flagship smartphone could become the South Korean’s first smartphone to feature a carbon fiber body.
A recent report by industry sources suggests that the Korean company will drastically improve the design of its future devices by using carbon fiber instead of plastic. The first smartphone expected to benefit from this is the upcoming flagship in the Galaxy S series, the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The smartphone market is constantly changing and it is a tough market; remaining competitive in such a market means being one step ahead of the competition. In order to catch up with the competition Samsung apparently decided to replace the plastic that it used in its devices. A possible solution may be the use of magnesium or aluminum for the company’s upcoming devices. While magnesium is a lightweight and cheap material, aluminum is more durable and it can offer a premium look to a device.
There are also rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a carbon fiber body. These rumors started to appear after the Korean company bought the SGL Group also known as “The Carbon Company”. Carbon fiber is an ultra light material, that can easily be molded into any shape and it is also durable so it is a very good candidate.
As we mentioned, the first smartphone to benefit from the new design will probably be the high end Samsung galaxy S5, next year, while low end products from Samsung will most likely continue to use plastic. The report also mentions that Samsung has already started working with the aforementioned materials, prototyping body designs in its own factories. What do you expect from the Samsung Galaxy S5 in terms of materials used for its body?
