Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature A Metallic Casing

If you want to buy a Galaxy S smartphone and if you are willing to wait until the next generation Galaxy S is released, most likely next year, you could be the owner of the first smartphone from the Galaxy S line to come with a metallic body. During the past years, one of the most common complaint about Samsung’s series of flagship smartphones was related to the build material. You may have noticed that the high end smartphones on the market are almost all heading toward a metallic body and elegant designs; Samsung on the other hand choose another direction for its Galaxy S line of smartphones.

For example, take the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Korean company’s current flagship smartphone. The Galaxy S4 was launched not long ago (a few months back), and it features a polycarbonate case, instead of a metallic one. For this reason the Samsung Galaxy S4 feels cheap – there is no other way to put it, the materials used for its casing, make the Samsung Galaxy S4 feel cheap. And this cheap feel is in direct contrast to the Galaxy S4′s specs and features as it is a very powerful smartphone, offering many features not found in other smartphones. And despite its high end specs and many features, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a cheap look and feel, that shouldn’t be associated with a high end smartphone.

Since the Samsung Galaxy S4 is still relatively new it might be a bit premature for Galaxy S5 rumors, especially since Samsung’s next flagship smartphone won’t be released until next year. Yet, a recent patent filing could give us a first look at what the Samsung Galaxy S5 might offer and it seems it is good news, especially for those users getting tired of plastic casings. It would seem that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will come with a beautiful metallic casing, as it deserves.

The report describes (not in great detail though) how the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be manufactured. It would seem that even though Samsung won’t give up on using plastic for the next generation Galaxy S’ casing, the cheap material will be used in reduced quantities as most of the Samsung Galaxy S5′s casing will be made of metal.

The above sketch shows a preliminary design of the Samsung Galaxy S5; the final product is expected to look wildly different to what you can see in the above sketch, which isn’t a bad thing considering the above image is just a sketch (and not a quality one either). Regardless, the sketch shows a Samsung Galaxy S5 that features a non unibody metal cover which is not mutually exclusive with features such as a removable battery and a micro SD card slot. Samsung knows better than to give up on these features, as they are two of the main advantages the Samsung Galaxy S line has over other high end smartphones.

As we mentioned earlier in the article, it’s too soon even for rumors; an official word on the Samsung Galaxy S5 is out of the question until a couple of months after the Samsung Galaxy Note 3′s release. The Galaxy Note 3 phablet is expected to be announced and released this fall and just as previous Samsung devices, it is also expected to be made out of plastic. If you are waiting for a Samsung device with a metallic body, keep an eye on the Samsung Galaxy S5.
