Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Eye-Scan Technology

Samsung Eye Scan 400x250 Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Eye Scan Technology

Expected to be released next year, the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone might top Apple’s iPhone 5S. Rumors say that Samsung’s next-generation flagship device will have an integrated sensor for eye-scanning.

Even though fingerprint scanning technology has been present for a while now in smartphones and other devices, the system used in Apple’s iPhone5S brings something innovative to the market. Until now, in order to scan a fingerprint, you would have to swipe your finger on a sensor shaped like a strip. This method, however, contained errors and could lead to inaccurate detections. But the Touch ID technology used in the iPhone 5S allows its owner to scan a fingerprint by simply pressing the finger against the home button. This is a pretty interesting method, but some security problems appeared after some researchers from Germany managed to create clone fingerprints and break into the device. The only objects they used were a printer, PVA glue and a camera.

Regarding the fingerprint scanner, Samsung was silent so far, even though some competitor companies, such as HTC have already announced their intention of launching a device with this feature included. In HTC’s case we’re talking about their next HTC One Max. The guys from AndroidSaS have reported that Samsung’s silence   about the subject is due to another project they’re working on, an eye-scanner. This would definitely increase the security in smartphones.

We couldn’t obtain more details about the technology Samsung is going to use for the eye scanner, but our first guess is that they might be trying to scan the user’s unique cornea pattern, with a high-res camera positioned on the front of the device. If you remember, there used to be a system able to unlock a device by facial reading, but the system could be fooled easily by placing a photo of the owner in front of the camera. Meaning the cornea reader is a far better choice.

Considering that recent rumors place the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 sometimes around February next year, we’re sure that soon we’ll be seeing some solid evidence if the rumors regarding the eye-scanner in the Samsung Galaxy S5 are true. And even if Samsung will hold every piece of evidence under lock and we won’t see any leak until then, we don’t have to wait long in order to see the real deal.

So, what do you think about this feature in the Samsung Galaxy S5? Do you believe these rumors to be true?
