Samsung Reduces the Gap with Apple in the Tablet Market
The share of Samsung Electronics in the global tablet market has reached a record level, which allowed the South Korean corporation to reduce the gap from the leader, the Apple. This is reported by analysts from the Strategy Analytics.
According to their estimates, Samsung shipped 12.8 million tablets in the first quarter of 2014, which corresponds to 22.6 % of the total market. A year earlier the share was 18.9 % and the number of devices in the Galaxy Tab series shipped was 9.1 million.
Apple Inc. is the world’s biggest tablets manufacturer. However, the share of the iPad producer fell by 11.5% year on year, reaching 28.9 % in January-March this year. In some regions, such as Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Apple has surrendered the leadership to Samsung.
The analysts identify a wide variety of products the main competitive advantage of the South Korean giant. Thanks to it, Samsung will continue to come near the Apple’s market share.
Lenovo company follows with a large gap behind the leaders. It released 2.3 million tablets in the last quarter to receive a 4.1% share of the market. ASUS followed with 3.7% and 2.1 million items shipped. Amazon share is 2.6 %.
