Samsung Watch Samsung Reported To Be Also Working At A Smart Watch Project

To begin with we must remind you that as we speak other smart watches available on the market: there is the Sony smart watch and there is also Pebble, the now famous Kickstarted project. However, none of these two projects have been successfully enough to transform the smart watch in the next big thing, as Apple did with tablets and smart phones for example. That is why everybody is looking at Apple for a move in this field and there has been plenty of speculation: according to rumors, Apple will release a smart watch sometime this year. However, Apple is not the only corporation that thinks smart watches are going to be the next big thing. There are rumors about a similar device being in the works at Samsung.

A recent report by Bloomberg suggests that not only both Apple and Samsung intend to build wearable devices that have the same functions as smart phones, but these corporations are in a race to be the first to release its smart watch on the market.

According to Jungah Lee from Bloomberg: “Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) is developing a wristwatch as Asia’s biggest technology company races against Apple Inc. (AAPL) to create a new industry of wearable devices that perform similar tasks as smartphones.”

“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long[...]” this quote appears to belong to Lee Young Hee (executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business division). “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.” continued the same Lee Young Hee.

While Apple’s PR would never confirm or deny the company’s future projects or even talk about them so openly, Samsung apparently confirmed and talked about their smart watch project openly, even though they did not go into detail regarding the smart watch’s set of features or specifications or pricing. However, Samsung confirming that they are indeed working on a smart watch all but confirms that Apple too is working on a wearable device and thus create a new market for smart watches and a new market leader – the iWatch. And for those of you that need a more direct proof than the competitors announcing a similar product, according to Bllomberg “Apple seeks to introduce its wristwatch device as soon as this year, said one of the people familiar, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren’t public. [...] The features under consideration by the Cupertino, California-based company include letting users make calls, see the identity of incoming callers and check map coordinates, one of the people said. It would also house a pedometer for counting steps and sensors for monitoring health-related data, such as heart rates, this person said.”

If we are to believe the rumors, there is a team at Apple of supposedly more than 100 engineers working on a wearable device – the iWatch. According to the same rumors, Apple’s smart watch will run on a modified version of the company’s mobile Operating System – the iOS and Apple is aiming for a battery life of about four or five days, though they have not been able to get the iWatch’s battery life to last more than two or three days. Keep in mind that these are rumors though.

This segment of the market, dedicated to wearable devices, is going to get very interesting in the next few months as both corporations, Apple and Samsung, are working on dedicated products. They both have the necessarry resources and manpower so we can’t wait to see the first smart watch from any of these two corporations. Are you excited at the prospect of buying a smart watch that could connect to your smart phone?
