Should You Jailbreak Your iOS 7 Device With Evasi0n7?

Team Evad3rs recently released version 1.0.2 of the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool. However, many owners of iOS devices are not sure if they should jailbreak their iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPad Air, iPad Mini and iPod Touch. And unfortunately, there is no simple answer to the question: “Should I jailbreak my iPhone or iOS device?“.

The Evasi0n 7 TaiG controversy made a lot of iOS users think twice whether to run the Evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak on their devices. For other users, a jailbroken iOS device is the best option so there is no reason not to use the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool. Keep in mind though that using the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool may brick your iOS 7 device; if you don’t know what jailbreaking is and if you are afraid of advanced troubleshooting, then it may be a good idea not to jailbreak your iOS 7 device.

If you are on the side of users that jailbreak their iOS devices, it may be a good time to use the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool as Apple can push out an update that will fix the vulnerabilities that team Eva3rs manage to exploit. Odds of Apple releasing such an update before the official release of iOS 7.1 are pretty high, so if you want to jailbreak your iOS 7 device and you don’t mind the risks associated with the jailbreak procedure, there is no point in waiting.

A very important thing to know before using the Evasi0n7 iOS 7 jailbreak tool is that if you have used the over the air (OTA) update feature on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, then you will have to run a full restore before using team Evad3rs’jailbreak tool. As some of you know, Apple stops “signing” old iOS software after a new version is launched and this could lead to situations where people may not be able to run  the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool on their iOS devices if they wait too long before using the tool.

In case you expect to use third party mods and apps without problems, then it’s better to wait a bit and not install some of the apps on Cydia (the iOS software app that allows users to install software packages on jailbroken devices) until developers work on their apps and mods to work better with Evasi0n7. Team Evad3rs’ Evasi0n7 is able to jailbreak your iOS 7 device but due to its surprising release, mod and app devs were caught off guard and some apps and mods had trouble working on iOS 7 devices jailbroken with the first version of Evasi0n7.

For example, Mobile Substrate does not work on an iOS 7 device jailbroken with the first version of Evasi0n7.  So any apps and tweaks that use Mobile Substrate will not work properly. However, after the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool was released, Jay Freeman (also known as Saurik) urged users to use it promising Mobile Substrate will be fixed very soon. Some of the other mods and tweaks that did not work with the first version of Evasi0n7 were also updated in the following days. so from this point of view everything should work now that Evasi0n7 is at version 1.0.2. Even so, it is wise to back up your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch before using Evasi0n7 to jailbreak your iOS 7 device or before installing mods and tweaks on your jailbroken device.

Another important thing you should know before attempting to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 7 is that the jailbreak process is against Apple’s user agreement: “It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of the iOS end-user software license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software“.

In case you need some tweaks installed on your jailbroken iOS 7 device, there is already a list made by a users that jailbroke their devices and tested if various tweaks work with iOS 7 or not. Unfortunately if you own an iPhone 5S, you won’t be able to use most of the tweaks as the smartphone’s 64 bit System on Chip is not compatible with them. A fix is being worked on though so you can expect proper support for iPhone 5S’ 64 bit System on Chip to be released very soon. There were also problems with iPad 2 WiFi devices, as owners of these devices running iOS 7 were unable to use their tablets after using the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool on their devices, due to a boot loop at the Apple logo. However, as we reported a few days ago, the Evad3rs team fixed the issue in Evasi0n7 version 1.0.2.

The jailbreak procedure is not meant for everyone and iOS Doc is not responsible for any damage caused by installing Evasi0n7 or any iOS 7 tweaks. Keep in mind that you should only use the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool on your iOS 7 device if you know exactly what you are doing.
