Sony to Release a Smart Watch made of E-Paper in 2015

Sony is developing a smart watch based on electronic paper, Rbc reports this citing informed sources. A new department of the Japanese company aimed to create innovative products develops this gadget. The novelty is to debut early ib 2015.
Both the dial and the band of the watch are made of a material that will allow them to function as a display surface and to change the appearance of the device. At the same time just like with Apple’s smart watch Apple Watch, the?smart watch by Sony will target not only the technological innovation but?style as well.
The new device will be not only an opportunity?for Sony to compete in the market of “wearable techs” with the iPhone manufacturer. Its mission is to restore to the company, which once introduced the world to new items such as Trinitron TV and the Walkman player, the spirit of innovation, the newspaper notes. E-paper watch was developed in the new “creative” division of the company, the CEO Kazuo Hirai set up specifically for this purpose.
Sony’s “Innovative” division was created in 2014. Its mission is to develop products and services that are not part of the structure of the existing departments. In addition to paper watch the department created a MESH project – a kind of constructor, consisting of multicolored sensors, LEDs and buttons. The constructor should help both experienced developers and enthusiasts to create prototypes of different devices and manage them via a wireless interface. In addition, the unit also includes a business incubator – Sony’s Seed Acceleration Program. But?the paper watch and their success in the market?will serve as the indicator of the division’s effectiveness?in the market and will define the future of the department.
It is believed that the focus on the appearance can help Sony make the difference in the market of smart watches, most of which at the moment serve as an additional screen for smartphones. Apple chose a similar direction previously, positioning Apple Watch as a fashion accessory, which will be presented in three versions with different design. Later, Intel introduced a smart MICA band, designed with?Opening Ceremony fashion brand.
