Nook for the iPad
Book retailer Barnes & Noble’s e-reader (which before was exclusive for reading books bought through Barnes and Noble) adds in its latest version magazines and newspapers with a very large array of topics covered (from food related magazines to technology related ones). You will have to go to nookbooks.com using Safari instead of buying from inside the app. NOOK is free and US only.
Cosmo for Guys (CFG)
Have you ever dreamed of knowing what women want? Can’t fool us, of course you did. And now you will know, thanks to CFG aka Cosmo for Guys, a magazine that takes pride in giving men advice, tips and guides (who doesn’t like an article that promises to help you win the heart of your dream girl in 10 simple steps) on women. So now you will finally get to know what’s inside a woman’s head. Yes, we know that it sounds absurd, but there are many people who read these kind of magazines so CFG is available on your iPad if you want it. For free too.. err, the app that is, because to actually read the magazine you will have to pay $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year. What, you thought they’d make you a woman’s dream for free?
Jazzwise
As its name suggests, this digital magazine specializes in a particular subject and that subject is Jazz music. It covers not only Jazz but anything from the cutting edge of jazz, improv, bebop, spiritual jazz and jazz-rock to world music, soul jazz, jazz funk, M-BASE, acid jazz and prog jazz. This is a very popular magazine in the world of Jazz lovers, so popular in fact that it is Europe’s number one magazine when it comes to Jazz, offering features, reviews, the latest news, a gossip column and of course gig guides. It costs $4.99 per month (that is £2.99 per month if you happen to live in the UK) or $39.99 per year (£27.99 for UK citizens).
The Atlantic
Created as a literary and cultural commentary magazine, The Atlantic magazine’s digital edition is now available for your iPad. It is up to date and contains all the content from the printed edition (news, features, photos, comments) and as a bonus it also includes multimedia content (such as videos and music) and you can buy it issue by issue (for $4.99) or you can make an annual subscription (10 issues will cost you $21.99). The app is free.
U.S. News Weekly
This publication will bring you political news straight from Washington, complete with observations and commentary from the best journalists on the subject. While the app is free, the subscription is only $0.99 per month which is quite reasonable.
WORLD Magazine
WORLD magazine is a Christian news magazine, whose mission statement is “To report, interpret, and illustrate the news in a timely, accurate, enjoyable, and arresting fashion from a perspective committed to the Bible as the inerrant Word of God.” The app is free and you can subscribe to the digital edition for your iPad for $49.95 per year if you are not already a WORLD subscriber, or $19.95 per year if you already have a WORLD subscription. The digital edition comes in 26 issues per year and offers additional audio / video content allowing you to play video and audio clips directly from the article. It also offers an archive for older issues, which is available for free.
Wallpaper* magazine
Wallpaper* is a popular magazine focusing on travel, design, entertainment, fashion and media. Its digital edition is designed to bring you the same reading experience as the printed edition, directly to the modern tablet that you love, the iPad. With exclusive bonus content like photos and videos, the digital edition can be purchased from the free app for the price of $9.99.
Vidi Magazine
Vidi is a niche magazine, focusing on computers and electronics. It offers the latest news in technology, hardware and software reviews and articles about every part of our society where computers are in use. It is a relatively new magazine and in an effort to make it known to the public it is offered for free to download and read on your iPad.
GQ British
Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ) magazine is a famous magazine dedicated to men which aims to bring (through its articles) the latest in fashion, style, and culture for men. The United Kingdom digital edition of the magazine comes with a free sample of the magazine, but to get the full issue you will have to buy it from within the app. Besides having all the content of the printed edition, the digital edition will bring you a lot of iPad exclusive content.

Astronaut appears to be a magazine developed specially for the iPad and it tries to offer a place for independent filmmakers to present their documentaries, but it also profiles up and coming music acts and photographers, art and fashion designers and more. It includes about an hour and half of video and only no. 1 is out so far, which can be bought for the price of $3.99 (or £2.49 if you are a citizen of the UK).
